22 oz. bottle, with a bottled on date 07/29/2013 printed on the bottle. Excited to finally be trying this beer, I've slept on trying this for too long. Expectations are high based on this beer's current ratings.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Pours one finger of fluffy white head that fades away fairly quickly, but this beer is definitely not flat like others have complained. Body is a bright golden orange color.

S - Dear god, this beer smells like buttered popcorn. I can honestly say I have never smelled a beer like this before, so it gets props for uniqueness. Not smelling any of the sterling hops in the nose that the bottle mentions. There is a gourdy vegetable pumpkin like smell in there, but it is buried beneath the butter and corn kernel smell. Some faint perfumey alcohol esters on the finish.

T - Taste is a bit of an improvement from the nose. No buttered popcorn, thankfully, but the malts do lend a sort of grainy character. Creamy natural pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie crust, caramel malts, cinnamon, brown sugar, apparent but subtle hop bitterness from the magnum hops, and a touch of alcohol heat on the finish. Creamy authentic pumpkin puree becomes even more pronounced as the beer warms toward room temperature.

M - Feel is smooth & creamy, with a medium full body and ideal carbonation. Bit of a dryness in the finish.

Overall, a nice pumpkin beer, but it is definitely not my favorite one I've ever tried. Definitely a nice amount of pumpkin, but a tad more spice probably wouldn't hurt. The nose on this beer is also pretty nasty, which is surprising. If you wanted to brew a popcorn beer, you would want it to smell like this stuff. A nice one from Southern Tier, but there a lot of pumpkin beers, so I couldn't see myself drinking this more than once a year.
