I definitely need to find a way to conduct a proper taste test between this, Hoppe, and Unearthly. There's no way I'll make it through a twenty two ounce serving of each and have anything coherent to say by the time I am half way through.
That being said!
I found this to be a delicious double IPA.
The gold seal was annoying to deal with. I don't like any more obstacles between my beer and I than absolutely necessary.
The differences between this and its sibling double IPAs made by Southern Tier are subtle. The clearest differences seem to be in the textures. I believe this one to be the bubbliest of the three (perhaps being newly bottled with that added seal, well, sealing), and perhaps the most well balanced. This being a blend of those other two tasty brews makes sense as this shows a broader scope of citrus flavors, but each of those flavors being at a relative lower volume. Zests of lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, grapefruit... all make guest appearances with no particular one taking a starring role. Well masked alcohol with underlying malt support makes this a short lived bottle of beer.
Wicked good stuff. I'd buy this again without hesitation.

650 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.5%. Orange coloured beer, big to moderate off-white head with an orangey hue. Strong aroma of American hops, fruity and resinous notes, sweetish malts in the background, hints of marmalade and caramel. The flavour is first very sweet, followed by a massive assault of American hops, with a distinct grapefruity and resinous bitterness throughout.

Great ale, powerful malt forward backbone that compliments its hazy golden appearence with citrus and bright hops. Absolutely dank especially as the beer warms for once i cant finish bit all.

I have had a few from this NY brewer and had thought they were above average, but not special. This beer, may have changed my mind. Excellent hoppy ale. Great blend of hops and malt and well disguised ABV. Bravo!

Review from 3/5/09-10.5% ABV; excellent nose and flavor, very hoppy, followed by spices, more hops and pine nuts; brew has a lot of flavor; a Limited Release which was really tasty and easy to drink considering the high ABV.
