Poured on-tap and served in a tulip, the beer is a dark brown to black coloring with a thin, light tan head. Good lacing while you drink. Nose of melted chocolate, syrupy, milky, and fudgy. Flavors of roast initially, with a blend of bitter baker's chocolate and milk chocolate, with a sugary sweet overtone. Smooth and creamy in mouth, and the bitterness cuts through to clean everything up. Roasty and bitter aftertaste, with a slick, smooth finish and moderate linger. Beer made for the chocolate lovers out there.

Bottle purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, NY.

Pours a dark, deep, black, with about a quarter inch head. No lacing, really.

Smells like Willy Wonka's chocolate river. Such an overload of chocolate here. Brownies soaked in copious amounts of Hershey's syrup.

The taste is similar. It has an incredibly thick body, tastes like you're drinking a chocolate milkshake. The chocolate flavor doesn't get cloying, but it is overpowering. Real genuine chocolate flavor too- I can taste both milk chocolate and dark chocolate at times, with cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, and melted chocolate ice cream all coming to mind at different times during the tasting.

Ridiculously full bodied, creamy, and sticky. Coats your mouth like most beers wish they could. Low carbonation. No alcohol taste present.

What a creation by Southern Tier. If you're looking for many flavors, go elsewhere. But if you're looking surprising complexity within one flavor profile (chocolate!), this is it.

This beer came highly recommended to me. The beer had a rich chocolately aroma, tasted like chocolate, and had a slight hint of coffee/toffee in the finish. I immediately ran out to find this beer in the store. It is available in large bottles as well as draft.

A - Black as night. Light mocha head, pencil thin. dissipates in 1-2 min.

S - Cocoa, dark bitter chocolate and vanilla. wish it were more potent. maybe use milk chocolate?

T - Initially smooth cocoa, lite roast, coffee/expresso. hop level is moderate/low. finish contains slight bitter taste. 10 ABVs masked very well.

M - light froth, viscosity is low, coffee taste lingers

O - Really nice and smooth. I do wish a bit more milk chocolate was used. It seems all chocolate used was the dark cocoa. Milk chocolate might increase scent. Overall all flavors are blended really well. Very nice. could definitely have one more of these.
