I've now had two beers I consider "dessert beers", and only one of those (this one) that actually touts itself as such, well, this is one damn good dessert beer...

Out of the glass the brew pours a practically black liquid with weak head and no lacing. The smell is truly divine - creme brulee with a nice mix of distinctive stout. The mouthfeel makes this a very accessible beer, smooth and almost creamy. Though the beer should have tasted boozy, it was far from it. In fact, it was an incredible blend of the 10% ABV with the sweetness of creme brulee. Overall, it was really good as a dessert beer - not too sweet at all, a truly perfect blend of booziness and light sweet taste.

Pours extremely dark brown and opaque with a small to medium khaki head that left only spotty lace. Nose is strong vanilla, burnt sugars/marshmellow, sweet milk coffee. Quite the dessert nose. Taste is a bit overly harsh on the vanilla. Chocolate and burnt marshmellow with an odd alternating sweetness/dryness. Overall, an interesting beer that pushes the adjunct limits...winning in smell but not as much on flavor.

Look: 2-finger head and poured from a 22 oz. bottle. The head sticks around for a decent amount of time. Lacing continues on. Black as coal - absolutely no light coming through.

Smell: Smells like maple syrup, caramel, vanilla, and hints of chocolate. Slight coffee hints, but the vanilla and syrup are the most powerful by far. It is a bit too "flavored drink" smelling... meaning a bit artificial.

Taste: Surprising bite upfront (hops I'm assuming even though you can't really make out hop flavor). The vanilla and maple and caramel flavor is very strong. Heavily roasted grains are very noticeable as there is a charred/burnt flavor. It seems to be very sweet, but at the same time, bitter and dry (quite confusing to the taste buds!). This is a very rich and heavy beer. Definitely a sipper. There is an alcohol warmth immediately.

Feel: Full bodied even though it is very high on the ABV scale. The 10% ABV knocks it down a bit. Stays interesting even though it flattens out as you drink it.

Overall: Great beer that I've heard about for years, but never seen it in the stores in my area. I'm in CO, and they have finally been distributing this one out here. Very full, thick, rich, and a dessert in a glass! Not one I would drink every week, but I can see myself having this one a few times a years. Winter/Holiday time would be great.

This imp stout is a dark brown color with medium khaki head and little lacing.

Smell is a ton of vanilla and little else.

Taste is vanilla, maybe a roasted marshmallow kind of flavor. Not much of the chocolate or coffee you get from traditional stouts. Some chocolate in the aftertaste I suppose.

Mouthfeel isnt very chewy for an imp stout, but thats fine.

Overall an ok beer. If you love vanilla it will hit the mark for you. If you like traditional stouts stick to them. Seems like coffee chocolate and bourbon are my preferable flavors.

nice looking dark brown pour, black in glass. less than a finger of tan head that recedes quickly, leaving a few spots of lace. aroma is pretty nice, super sweet vanilla, dark fruity cherry note, sweet chocolate. on palate it is decent at first, but as it warms becomes extremely cloying and almost medicinal. at first i thought it might be enjoyable, but ultimately it is not.
