OG Pumking is probably my favorite pumpkin beer, and I was impressed by the Nitro Coffee variant a few months ago, so I’m thinking this one will be right up my alley. I’m not usually a huge nitro fan, but I just feel like it’s the perfect storm for this one. Let’s crack it open and get going

Pours a hazy orange gold with am infinite finger of off white head that leaves minimal lacing

I typically find that nitro beers supress the aroma a bit, but it’s still coming through nicely here. I’m picking up on aromas of roasted pumpkin, pie crust, crackery malt, allspice, vanilla, and light nutmeg

In terms of taste it’s a bit more muted than I like, but I’m still getting the signature sweetness of the base beer. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting pumpkin meat, sweet vanilla, toasted bread, and allspice. The swallow brings notes of roasted pumpkin, graham cracker, sweet vanilla, and nutmeg

A medium body pairs with gentle airy carbonation, resulting in a very smooth beer. Finishes off dry and sweet

It’s not the ideal form of this beer, but it’s still pretty good. I’ll probably just reach for the regular one 99 times out of 100

February 2023. Athens. A little after the fact (autumn)—but enjoyed it more than I did in October. Excellent thick meringue-like head. Not over powering pumpkin spice. A little watery tasting. Better than I remembered. Would probably buy again—-although non nitro preferred.

Drank from a 13.6 fl oz • 402.2 ml can purchased at Gordon’s Fine Wine and Liquors, Watertown, MA
Served in a tulip

With an aggressive pour, an immensely tight and creamy, three-finger tall, eggshell colored plume rose above the burnished orange body. The head ever-so-slowly receded to a lasting crown that stayed a good inch-plus tall for quite awhile. Spotty, drippy lacing cascaded down the sides of the grass.

The nose was outstanding and contained everything I look for in a good pumpkin beer. Pumpkin pie spice notes dominated but seemed authentic and unobtrusive. Nutmeg came through strongest. Loads of allspice too. Cinnamon followed closely behind. Bit of clove as well. A nice brown sugar-like sweetness was also apparent. All in all, really punchy and complex but not kitschy or garish in the least bit.

The flavor profile was notably rougher around the edges. Big crystal malt profile up front. Pumpkin pie spice notes appeared as the beer moved along the palate, but here they bordered on harsh and excessive. Touch of brown sugar sweetness in the center. Earthy hop notes came through on the back end and lingered in the finish. Kiss of booze as well.

The mouthfeel was almost as big a disappointment as the flavor. The body was surprisingly thin and watery and contained a super fine, super subtle effervescence that made the beer seemed even more flaccid and watery than it perhaps was.

Pumking - Nitro had a fantastic nose, but its flavor profile was surprisingly harsh and the mouthfeel lacked both body and carbonation. It has been a while since I tried the original version of this beer, but I am fairly certain I would prefer it over this one.

Quick shake and a big hiss upon cracking the can, poured it upside down into a lass. Big head of cream colored foam that reverse cascaded into a dark amber orange body. It's a pretty solid nitro beer, really creamy with a creamy head that won't quit. At 8.6% the alcohol is undetectable which is surprising because the original pumking is fairly boozy in a detectable way. It's a bit light in the way of both coffee and pumpkin notes but does have some lactose character.

Poured from a 13.6 oz. nitro can. Has a burnt orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of pumpkin, light spices. Taste is the same as the aroma, smooth and easy drinking. Feels creamy in the mouth and overall is a solid beer, but I prefer the original Pumking.

Pours an orange brown. Creamy foam. Pumpkin pie aroma. Bold pumpkin and brown sugar body. Not too sweet. Slight bitter finish. Very smooth. I think Pumking is better in nitro.

Not bad. The color isn’t as vibrant as the a pumking. The aroma is perhaps stronger, the key taste element of the beer. The taste is more lackluster, the pumpkin not as rich. The MF is flatter..

I greatly enjoy the Pumking, The nitro version is not an improvement nor as good.

I poured Pumking Nitro into a pint glass. A perfect off-white two finger head with excellent lacing rose above a dull, see-through orange/tan body. The nose was quite pleasant... vanilla mingled over cloves, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon. The taste was a bit different, with a soapy wash over the holiday spices. The mouthfeel was a bit thin, but the nitro really lifted the feel, and seemed to disseminate the flavor more broadly across the tongue, enlivening the experience. The pumpkin tastes a bit artificial, and I think Southern Tiers' flavors are admirably constructed, but the noticeable absence of pumpkin mash, visually, translates into a good chemists' rendition of something that is not quite as satisfying. Overall this is a very good pumpkin beer, which I appreciate all the more, because I cannot get my four favorite pumpkin brews in the state of Michigan. Pumking Nitro is a keeper.

poured from a 13.6oz can into a CW snifter. kind of ugly colored light copper pour made better looking by the mounting nitro foam head. pumpkin pie on the nose. taste is similar with pumpkin, nutmeg, graham cracker all combining for a wonderful autumn flavor experience. does finish a little watery as it warms up. excellent mouthfeel from the nitro treatment. really tasty pumpkin ale! the nitro version is a step up from regular pumking to me. smoother, less prickly mouthfeel and the sweetness seems toned down. glad to have tried.

Pours a deep amber color with a huge, thick, smooth tan head thanks to the nitro can. Lots of retention and a bit of lacing.

The smell is strong pumpkin spice, pumpkin, vanilla, and sweet brown sugar.

The taste follows with pumpkin spice and vanilla, especially strong on the finish.

The mouthfeel is smooth, low carbonation, with a slightly bitter, lingering finish.

Overall, this has great flavors and is very enjoyable.
