As scientists, our brewers utilize their materials to exacting standards. As artists, they couldn’t resist the temptation to combine two of our highly acclaimed Blackwater Series Imperial Stouts: Jahva and Choklat. Alone each is perfect, but together as Mokah they are an inimitable expression of two of the world’s most sought after flavors. Enjoy Mokah stout with – or as – your favorite dessert!

Bottle best by 12/5/25. Poured into shifter glass.
Dark brown/black with thin fizzy tan head that disappeared almost immediately.
No lacing as it went.
Aroma is mostly chocolate, kind of muddled with some little cinnamon and peanut butter. No coffee.
Taste follows nose. Not much complexity here.
Mouthfeel ok, actually finishes a little chalky.
Was hoping for more coffee, as it was my breakfast beer, but paired well enough with pancakes and Olympic gold for men's USA Hockey!
Overall it pales in comparison with others in this category

(review from February 2017) Excellent choclaty/java stout that ages well. Fooler of a 10% but whopper when it hits. Great dessert/sippin winter brew for choc/javaheads.

Another American Imperial Stout that doubles as a dessert beer...
I've now had two American Imperials on two consecutive days and both doubled as dessert beers - amazing. This one had a great taste - sweet, chocolaty, notes of coffee, and roasty. I certainly enjoyed it and would get another one without hesitation...

12oz bottle. Label has this information, 'BESTBY 12/05/25 LKW 24340 195629'.
Black colored body, with a thin red mahogany colored back lit edge. Thin light tan head sticks around as the body goes down.
Aroma smells sweet with chocolate and vanilla, along with dark roast coffee. Has a peppermint candy hint.
Taste is a rich mix of sweet fudge chocolate and sweetened dark roast coffee. Malts are also sweet. Has a bottom buzz. Quick end to the aftertaste.
More than medium mouthfeel. Syrup texture. Higher ABV% is just below the sweetness, but no burn. Dry finish. Very good carbonation.
Sweet dessert sipper.

12 oz bottle poured into a teku glass. Pours pitch black with a medium tan head, which fades away to a thin ring of bubbles. Aroma and flavor feature milk chocolate, smooth coffee, and dark roasted malt along with sweet vanilla and caramel. Mouthfeel is full, moderately carbonated, and slightly boozy. Overall it's very flavorful and more drinkable than I expected.

In for the night, so what's the harm with emptying two brown twelve ounce bottles into a clear glass liter mug? A sweet chocolate aroma fills the air, with some roasted barley malt behind it. The brew is black coffee brown, with very little tan head accompanying, even at room temperature. There's certainly some dark chocolate to taste. That, combined with the roasted malt and alcohol bite, almost stands up to the also present sweetness. The lactose muddles the individual taste components, but doesn’t soften the less than pleasant bite. At least it doesn't effect the mouthfeel in a negative way, although neither does it help smooth anything out. It probably contributes to a slightly chalky, but forgivable finish. Less than halfway through and there's no head, nor glass lacing. Overall, it's not bad, but there are other Imperial Stouts bringing the same thing that do it much better, many without the milk sugar.

Fortunate to find this one at a local grocery store. It was the only imperial staff they carried. I hadn’t heard of it before, but I wish I had! A nice blackish look in the glass. Smells of chocolate on the nose. The first taste makes you feel like you’re eating a bubbly Swiss chocolate bar. Has a nice smooth chocolate milk feel as it goes down. The chocolate is really strong in this one. Has a nice lingering finish. It’s limited where I live so I wish more places would carry this one. I’m definitely looking for this one.

I was looking over my profile to see what my notes for Mokah looked like when I had it many years ago, because I had just bought a single bottle recently and was ready to compare my thoughts from then to today. Guess what? I had never reviewed Mokah before! I have work to do. Southern Tier’s imperial stouts are what made them famous to me, and it’s appropriate to have one for the first time in many years. 12 ounce bottle, on to the beer:
I had a feeling this beer would be ink black in appearance. There’s a short lived tanned head which fizzles away to nothing. Decent legs hang onto the glass.
It smells a lot like chocolate with a whisper of roasted coffee. Like Choklat mixed with Jahva? How long was it since I had them, 15 years? How do I remember this? See, that’s why I notetake. Even in this new age of flavored stouts, Mokah can hold up to the best.
While there a kiss of booze, Mokah is nearly as tasty as a hypothetical offspring of Jahva and Choklat. The chocolate goodness from the latter is here in spades with a whisper of espresso, and finished with a vague chocolate liqueur aftertaste. Incredibly delicious to taste, and now I’m glad that I skipped dessert for this pleasure. In fact, make this dessert. Despite its dessert-like taste, it is very easy to drink for its size, and with a full body plus a modest buzz of carbonation, Mokah should be near the top of anyone’s try list.

This was exceedingly pleasant - smooth with some coffee and chocolate flavor, and nicely balanced. For once, I truly felt like the aroma / bouquet accentuated my enjoyment, too. I’m not sure but I think drinking this also makes me smarter and better looking, but honestly after I finish one (or two) of these, it probably wouldn’t matter.
