I am a big fan of IPAs. This one has a fantastic bouquet (better than most) and a nice taste without too much of a bite. Don't be fooled though, you are drinking a fully flavored beer. Frankly, this could be a beer you enjoy in the North Carolina beach heat (not a bunch but a few). The alcohol taste is there but Minimal. The finish is there and lasts as I expect and enjoy in an IPA.

Bottled 8/12/14. Consumed 11/22/14.

One of the first craft beers I had a few years back. Picked up a 6pk.

Pours light gold, half finger head which drops down to a thin ring. Slight haze.

Citrus in the nose composed of grapefruit and lemon. Not the strongest aroma.

taste is a small bit of the grapefruit and quickly balanced with bready malt. slight bitterness follows. Some of the lemon is detected but o think the sweet malts really are showcased a bit more here. A touch of sugary sweetness, almost maple syrup like sweetness.

Body is on the light side for a DIPA and finish is a bit dry. Medium carbonation. I like the feel more than the taste.

Extreme balance with this brew and the tastes go well together. Not packed with a whole lot of flavor though. Mouthfeel is the best part of this as its light and dry but not necessarily what a DIPA is supposed to be. regardless, its a nice beer no matter what style it belongs in.

Appearance: Clear, dark golden color with one finger of head that fades to a ring with some spotty lacing.

Aroma: Caramel malt with lots of citrus notes, mostly grapefruit rind.

Taste: Creamy malt sweetness quickly overwhelmed by a powerful blast of bitterness, which is pithy with some light citrus notes that perk it up. There's some soapiness on the back end with some more of the malt coming through leading to a lingering finish that is mildly nutty.

The Rest: Big body, bold hops, fantastic beer. I've liked just about every 2x beer Southern Tier had done, and this one is no different.
