The aroma is toasty and bready but not caramelly - a substantial malt presence that does a fine job of standing up to the big citrus, grapefruit, pineapple, pine and spicy hop aroma. It is estery - floral, with a touch of melon and berry as well. There is no diacetyl and no phenols.

The appearance is a deep gold with a touch of amber, just shy of clear which is okay for the style, and it has a strong fluffy white head.

There is some dark bread and graham cracker maltiness at the sip, but the malt never really has a chance as soon as the hops set in. It has a bracing clean bitterness, not harsh at all, that takes over in the middle of the palate and lingers all the way through. It is sharp and clean but not harsh at the swallow, and a touch of malt lingers in the finish, mingling with the prickly spicy bitterness.

The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, not unlike a dry stout actually. The body is medium, and the carbonation is moderate to high, which helps to lay down the residual sweetness a bit.

This beer, surprisingly, is all about balance. There are so many sloppy double IPAs out there, with a harsh level of hops used to try to balance out a rough and under-attenuated base beer. This is a well designed and well executed beer. The malt profile is actually prominent with out being sweet, and the hop profile is substantial without being harsh.

Lots of DIPAs are sippers. This one is screaming for food, like spicy barbecue, pulled pork, steak, or almost any seasoned spicy meat dish.

A- a clear, medium gold. About two fingers of creamy white head mostly dissipates, but a little bit lasts around the circumference, leaving significant lacing on the glass.

S- floral and resinous pine hops dominate

T-mostly piney hops, held up by a strong malt backbone

M- a little thinner than other DIPAs, but smooth on the palate.

O- a really good IPA, but not nearly as big as other DIPAs that are out now. But delicious and well made all the same.
