Southern Tier’s 2XCITRUS blooms ripe with fresh-squeezed flavor. This Double IPA is both tangy and sweet making it totally refreshing. Brewed with brilliant synergy between juicy fruit and hops, masterfully mingling delicious flavors of hand-picked Simcoe hops with orange and grapefruit.

Pours cloudy dark orange color with a 2 finger thick white foamy head that faded slowly and left really good camouflage lacing. It smells like a red grapefruit sliced in half, dipped into fresh squeezed orange juice with lemon juice added in for additional zest. A trailing whiff of biscuit peeks through but this is basically all grapefruit in the nose.
Tastes like it smells with strong red grapefruit up front, then fresh squeezed orange juice, tangerine, lemon juice, yuzu, light pineapple, coriander, peppery spices and biscuit. It’s too bitter for me and one dimensional, but it hit the mark on what they attempted to do.

This is the last of the 2x twelve pack I bought at the brewery. I may have tried this once before and it is just OK.
It pours yellow, translucent and with fine head. There is a bit of a deep hue in there underneath the yellow. The aroma is clean and citrus. The taste is bittered up by citrus in an otherwise mild tasting, easy drinking ale. It finishes pretty clean.
Recommended. I liked this the least of the 2x pack but I had tried all of them before. My son liked this one more than I did.

Poured into a grip shaped, wide mouth goblet: color is gold, transparent, head is off white and presents 1/2 inch thick and dissipates to thin top, limited lacing on the glass sides.
Smell is citrus - orange and grapefruit, pith and juice, then hops with citric and herbal notes, pine undertone; malt is caramel and base malt.
Taste is similar with initial citrus heavy flavor and backing malt base: orange/grapefruit pith/juice, citric hops, earth and light pine.
Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate bitterness, moderate sweetness - citric bite lingering.
Overall a heavy citrus but not sweet/juicy citrus IPA - flavor seems somewhat artificial and a lingering bite on the tongue could be the acidic after effects.

So I was at my cousins high school grad cookout this evening and was beyond delighted to see an array of Southern Tier IPAs chilling in the cooler. This one immediately caught my eye, but I think the can design and premise of the beer kinda out weigh the actual beverage. There’s too much going on here. This is such a big beer that it’s hard to decipher the flavors from one another. It wasn’t all that refreshing and honestly was hard to drink. Southern Tier is great. The other beers in the cooler were just a little better than this one and I was left disappointed.

One of four beers in a Southern Tier IPA variety pack.
Pours a golden, orange color. Semi-opaque but not hazy. A foamy one-finger off-white head on the initial pour.
Aromas of orange peel and citrus.
A definite fruit forward IPA. Orange and grapefruit are the initial tastes followed by a slight bitterness. Very good IPA. Refreshing.
Medium carbonation.
Overall, a very good IPA. As the can states “Fruited Double IPA” is what this beer is. Very citrusy, orange dominates the flavor profile. A beer I’d seek out again…cheers!
