poured from the 12 oz bottle into my new belgium goblet:

A - pours darker than cola; leaves a full finger of caramel looking head, and nice sticky lacing.
not a BIT of clarity - I cant see light thru this when held right up against the bulb.

S - stouty INDEED. choco-malty. no hops to the nose. pleasant

T - bitter without the hoppyness (?huh?) I just knocked off a full point on the taste.
bitter on the aftertaste as well. did I get a bad bottle?

M - thick like a stout ought to be - but the taste is getting worse

D - ;( NOT to be purchased. I'll force this one down rather than waste - but under protest!

Appearance is cola-brown with a tan head that has plenty of bubbles.

Nose is sweet lactose and malt, with cola and chicory.

Taste is a mix of dry and sweet. The lactose sugars are desert-like, and the malt flavor comes through dry and nutty. The sweetness can be cloying.

Mouthfeel is limp. Not under-carbonated, but watery.

Overall, it is just an unremarkable milk stout. I love Southern Tier, but this one can be left on the shelf.

Poured into a snifter

A: Black with ruby highlights. A tan half finger head that dissipates fast. Light lacing.

S: Sweet. Milk, anise, malts, chocolate, leather.

T: Smooth, sweet, robust. Malts up front. Lingering coffee taste. Slightly charred with a dry, smokey, chocolate finish.

M: Light to medium with medium carbonation.

O: Not as milky as I hoped it would be. The smokiness was a turnoff. Not bad. Just not great.
