Appearance - It is a blackish brown with a light brown head, with a good head and retention.

Smell - It is a has the coffee bitterness with the sweetness of chocolate.

Taste - Sweet but with a sharp bitterness to it; its most coffee flavor.

Mouthfeel - A bit too much carbonation, good body otherwise.

Overall - A good stout, but the bitterness can overpower the sweetness.

A: 2 finger head. Head is really creamy, dense and attractive. The head is atop a black liquid with no light penetration that I see. The head slowly dissipates leaving tons of lacing.

S: Not getting a lot. I let it warm for a bit and tried again. Still nothing coming through strongly. Maybe slight cocoa.

T: Really nice coffee notes front to back. There are some subtle chocolate hints and some dry bite at the finish. The alcohol is present on the finish and a slight bittering from the hops.

M: Smooth and creamy with low carbonation and a nice overall mouthfeel.

O: I love coffee forward stouts and this one is that delivers. This beer has coffee and a slight bitter - but there are no other flavors to build it up. Also I get almost nothing on the nose which is strange. I like this one, and will drink it again, but it is not my favorite coffee type stout.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. 2/23

Pours dark black. Fluffy brown head of foam. Sticks noticeably. Lots around the edges. Nose is milky with a faint coffee underneath. Taste opens burnt bitter but quickly overwhelmed by a milky creamy smooth layer. Little fizz has a pop and a close that pokes the hop through. Better bite than many lactose stouts. Well done.

Poured out of a bottle, this beer pours a fairly thick dark chocolate colored beer. There is a noticeable lining of head that stays for a good amount of time.

Smell: roasted malt, hints of cocoa, think alcoholic whoppers.

Taste: a very true thick milk stout taste. maybe a bit of hops at the beginning but finishes with a strong beer-milk flavor.

Overall this is a pretty great stout in my opinion. Fairly light bodied for a stout, but at 7% ABV this beer is pretty easy to drink. Would be GREAT with ice cream or cheesecake. This is a nice flavorful stout; although it does not have too many sides to it, so it might not stand out too much against more complex stouts.

Pours pitch black with a khaki-colored head. Some lacing left clear around the glass, though spotty. Aroma is rich, befitting the "2X" moniker. Sweet, kind of like molasses. Bit of a smoke note, too. Rich chocolate, maybe half milk chocolate half dark. Some whiffs of alcohol, though. Quite nice on the nose, overall.

Flavor is good, but excessive roast astringency and fusel character brings it down a notch or two. Sweetness from lactose and residual malt sugars is fairly high, but it's nothing like ST's own Creme Brulee or Choklat, to give a point of reference. Flavors tip towards the chocolate side of the scale, with perhaps some faint coffee. Mouthfeel is kind of thin and not quite smooth. Carbonation could be a bit less harsh.

Rich and sweet, though not cloying. The roast character was somewhat overbearing for me. Though stronger and more flavorful, I didn't find this as enjoyable as "lighter" examples like Sam Adams Cream Stout or Left Hand Milk Stout.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Very dark brown with a fingers worth of light tan head. Nice ring of lacing after each swallow.

Smell- Light aroma of roasted malt and chocolate.

Taste- Roasted malt and chocolate flavors with some notes of dark fruits.

Mouthfeel- Full bodied, smooth, and creamy. Sticky feel after the swallow.

Overall- A good beer from Southern Tier. I like their creme brulee better but this is still very enjoyable.
