Bottle. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with minimal dark brown head. Quite heavy carbonation for a stout. Notes of coffee and chocolate with a nice aftertaste (slightly smoky and very bitter).

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance is pitch black in color (almost ink like). The head is one finger thick (less than expected) with moderate retention and good lacing around the glass.

Smell is caramel malt, oats, milk/vanilla, plum, some chocolate, peanuts and minor smokiness. Some alcohol is also noticeable.

Taste is a lot of chocolate, oats and roasted malt up front followed by milk/cream throughout. The chocolate is much stronger here than in the smell with caramel flavors also prevalent (not much coffee). Some fruit (plum) comes through in the taste as well. There is moderate sweetness upfront with a dry finish and low bitterness. There is also a little heat/alcohol detected on the finish but not overpowering.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied (lighter than expected) and creamy with good carbonation (some initial tingling).

Overall, this is a fairly well balanced stout with good chocolate and milk flavors, but I was hoping for a little more coffee flavors. It is a little sweet to drink more than one at time, but I would not hesitate to drink this stout again.

I like this better than others. Try 6.

A: Pours into a Duvel tulip a dark brown-black with ruby highlights and a 1 inch head that doesnt cream like stout and leaves a bit of lace.

S: Milk, hot chocolate and chocolate powder, with fruit.

T: The sweet, creamy lactose delivers more than chocolate up front. Then it becomes dark fruit, a tiny bit of roast and char, and the hoppy hint of citrus. Finishes sweet and dessert like.

F: Excellent. the best part. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation, but great creaminess.

O: if you like sweet 2x milk stouts, this must be on your short list, but otherwise mid-pack. Try 6.

Its good but nothing to write home about. Its not nearly as smooth and silky as other milk stouts I've had.

L: Dark black, opaque, poured a light head that faded quickly. Light lace on the glass
S: Quite nice, milky sweetness. Maybe a little nutty, not much but a bit of chocolate as well.
T: Quite sweet like chocolate milk. A little of a burnt flavor as well as an aftertaste.
F: Burnt characteristics lend a somewhat acrid/astringent finish, more than normal though. Also not that creamy or smooth. However body is rich and full, carbonation is spot on.
O: Great sweet stout. Solid but not remarkable.
