12oz bottle in a pint glass. Thanks to my BMC drinking pal, Joe, for thinking of me and always keeping some goodies on hand.

A- Pitch dark, near black color with a dense 1-plus finger head, mocha-tan color. Pure rings of lace.

S- Fresh roasted black coffee, some bittersweet chocolate. Roasted malts and oats.

T- More dark cocoa and toasty oats and malts than coffee. The coffee aroma was so strong that I thought it would dominate the flavor. Some caramel and creamy sweets, too.

M- Good body and feel, chewy. It has enough hops for a little kick. Creamy.

O- Nicely balanced. The flavors blend. I just may have rated this a little higher if I'd have taken it on a winter day.

Dark chocolate brown cow appearance and light mocha head. Not that sweet in presentation, but has some nagging cloying properties. The lactose is definitely there, but the roast coffee flavors predominate, and it finishes with a nice char. Very bready-dark german pumpernickle and barley. Flavors are spot on, a little weak in the nose but the too thin, too sticky mouthfeel hurts.

A- Dark coffee

S- Sweet coffee

T- Burnt coffee with edge of sweetness

M- Milky, lactose

O- Not very impressed with this one, expected more from what the aroma gave me. Didn't care for the over powering burnt coffee taste. All other aspects of this were good though.

L: as to be expected from a milk stout, brown/black with a little light around the edges. Little to no head
S: muted smell of chocolate, some alcohol as it warms
T: coffee, roasted. I think the taste actually got worse as it warmed, as the cocoa flavor dissipated and the roasted coffee flavor got more prevalent
F: average mouthfeel, touch thin, getting drier as it warmed. Not my favorite for stouts
O: I started off thinking of this as a 4.0 type beer, but as it warmed it started to disappoint, making it more if a 3.5. I'll split the difference

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a mug. Beautiful jet black with hints of deep red/brown in light; fizzy dark brown head that dissipated quickly. Smells malty, with chocolate and roasted notes. Taste is surprisingly good; it goes all over your tongue with chocolate and roasted goodness. The sweet chocolate tempers the bitterness of the roasted malts. I was already expecting to like it, and I was still surprised by how good it tasted. Mouthfeel is relatively light, but the taste makes it seem fuller. Overall, this is a delicious stout, easy to drink. One of my new favorites.

Dark brown and opaque. Not a hint of light gets through a pint glass.Almost no head at all.
Light roasted malt smell.
Good mix of the bitter roasted malts and a touch of the sweet lactose.
A good stout that is on the lighter side of stouts. I'd drink it again but like the Blackwater series much more.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, completely opaque, pitch-black color with an eighth of a finger of caramel-colored head that immediately dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that gripped the sides of the glass and partially covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Roasted malt, freshly baked dark bread, dark chocolate, coffee and caramel. Nice aromas.

Taste: Great! Strong roasty flavors of coffee, toasted pumpernickel bread and dark chocolate, followed by some vanilla and caramel-like sweetness. The beer finishes with just a touch of hoppy bitterness. Very, very good.

Mouthfeel: Slightly chewy and very creamy, as there is practically no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 7.5%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is another great milk/sweet stout, and another great beer from Southern Tier. Great flavors of roasted malt, coffee and caramel, all wrapped up in a creamy quaff. Delicious!

Pours a dark black with a medium tan one finger head that fades into a thin cap with moderate lacing.

Aroma of of malt and hints of coffee.

Taste of dark roasted malt, black bold coffee and dark chocolate with a slight bitter after taste.

Mouth Feel was medium body with low carbonation, creamy and smooth.

Overall this was a very enjoyable Milk Stout, I did not get the sweetness that a milk stout usually offers, but that was fine by me.

Poured into a pint glass.

Pours a near black. Lots of tight bubbles, tan head. head is dense and fluffy. Leaves a little lace and a patchy head. Decent looks.

Brew smells of sweet cocoa, milk chocolate. Roasted notes; coffee and nuttiness. Good nose.

Brew tastes full bodied; lots of smokey, roasted notes. Sweet cocoa, milk chocolate. Real good body on this one. Creamy mouthfeel, finishes smooth and a little dry. Nice spice up front as well. Wow a great brew here. Lots of great flavors and body. Great stuff.

Great brew here. I love the flavors, the mouthfeel, the drinkability. Only get a little bit of the abv in the end. Almost like an imperial milk stout. Great brew here.

A-pours black with a tan head that has pretty good retention. Leaves a small lace around the glass
S-Sweet chocolate and a bit of toasted malt, a bit milder aroma than I would have expected
T-Sweet chocolate and caramel up front followed by hop bitterness that finishes sweet and roasted
M-medium-full bodied
O-Not a bad stout but not the best from southern tier. I would get it again but not my favorite.

12oz bottle from Piggly Wiggly. Poured into a shaped pint glass...

A: 2-finger, light khaki head that dies down to a nice, thin layer of retention on top of a brown-black, heavy looking beer.

S: Roasted malts; lactose sweetness; chocolate.

T: Dark malty taste; not super roasty; sweet milk and gets some acidity toward the finish; maybe some chocolate notes, too.

M: Full; moderate carbonation; a pretty heavy brew... very appropriate name.

O: I think I'll probably stick with the 1X versions, especially of the sweet/milk stout variety. A decent brew, though.

Appearance: On top is a beige head that is about two fingers thick. Beneath that head is an abyss of wonderful darkness.

Aroma: Espresso notes, molasses, roasted malts and hops. Dark fruits are in the back. Touches of milk sugar in the end.

Taste: Silky smooth mouthfeel. Molasses, brown bread and sugar, roasted hops almost burnt but certainly not. Cocoa is mixed in well amongst the dark furits.

Notes: Overall a very tasty an drinkable beer start to finish. Cheers.

A - dark dark black, small white head dissapears quickly

M - very smooth and drinkable, but very thin
O - very solid stout, I really enjoyed it

Pours a deep dark molasses with ruddy highlights and a coffee colored head.

Smells of coffee, plum, roasted barely and floral and bitter herb notes.

Bitter coffee and chocolate up front. It has a smooth creamy middle with roasted malt notes. Smooth to the finish with slight bitter herb and floral notes.

A: 2 finger head. Head is really creamy, dense and attractive. The head is atop a black liquid with no light penetration that I see. The head slowly dissipates leaving tons of lacing.

S: Not getting a lot. I let it warm for a bit and tried again. Still nothing coming through strongly. Maybe slight cocoa.

T: Really nice coffee notes front to back. There are some subtle chocolate hints and some dry bite at the finish. The alcohol is present on the finish and a slight bittering from the hops.

M: Smooth and creamy with low carbonation and a nice overall mouthfeel.

O: I love coffee forward stouts and this one is that delivers. This beer has coffee and a slight bitter - but there are no other flavors to build it up. Also I get almost nothing on the nose which is strange. I like this one, and will drink it again, but it is not my favorite coffee type stout.

A - A hard pour produces a thick 4 finger khaki colored head on top of a viscous black body. Sticky lace clings the glass

S - Coffee, chocolate, char notes. Nothing major or over the top.

T - Coffee and bitter chocolate, underlying lactose sweetness keeps bitterness from getting out of hand, char taste and hop bite in the finish.

M - Thick, creamy and low on carbonation. Coating feeling on the palate.

O - An easy drinking stout. Sweetness gives way to bitter in the end. Char flavor dominates and hop bitterness makes an unexpected and oddly placed appearance. No sign of the 7.5% ABV. Overall a good milk stout.

Pours pitch black with a khaki-colored head. Some lacing left clear around the glass, though spotty. Aroma is rich, befitting the "2X" moniker. Sweet, kind of like molasses. Bit of a smoke note, too. Rich chocolate, maybe half milk chocolate half dark. Some whiffs of alcohol, though. Quite nice on the nose, overall.

Flavor is good, but excessive roast astringency and fusel character brings it down a notch or two. Sweetness from lactose and residual malt sugars is fairly high, but it's nothing like ST's own Creme Brulee or Choklat, to give a point of reference. Flavors tip towards the chocolate side of the scale, with perhaps some faint coffee. Mouthfeel is kind of thin and not quite smooth. Carbonation could be a bit less harsh.

Rich and sweet, though not cloying. The roast character was somewhat overbearing for me. Though stronger and more flavorful, I didn't find this as enjoyable as "lighter" examples like Sam Adams Cream Stout or Left Hand Milk Stout.

Pours a deep chocolate brown with a very thin beige head, not much lacing at all. Smell of Chocolate and roasted malt on the nose, toasty and nutty. Medium bodied, nice and creamy, but just a touch of hops. Nice chocolate sweetness, the lactose is nice with the bittering hops. Seems like a dry finish, but how can that be with a sweet Stout? It works.

Pours a brown/black color with a small tan head that fades to bits of lacing. Thin head remians for duration.

Getting some roasted malt, with chocolate and coffee to round it out. A bit of choco-milkshake too. Good.

Taste follows scent with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee and some caramel sweetness. A pretty decent amount of bitterness on the backend keeps this one from getting even higher marks though. Nice Full body, smooth, thick and creamy. Not much hint of the 7.5% at all. Well done. balanced.

A very good milk stout. Goes down easy. Good dessert beer, but be wary of the abv.

Appearance: light darkness, beautiful color and low carbination, just like a stout should be

Smell: Excellent. Rich malty smells, chocolate, toffee. the smell of this one always gets me every time.

Taste: Excellent. It could had used more lactose to give a even richer taste, but its alcohol is perfectly contained and its flavor its extremely rich.

mouthfeel: silky, smooth, and well bodied.

Overall: this is one of the best stouts I've ever had. A very drinkable stout, its tastes, smells, and feels amazing. Not perfect, but still pretty close to it.

A perfect stout to drink after a long day, for desert, or even with ice cream in it.

I give it a near perfect 4.5 every time

APPEARANCE: A little brownish light gets through this one at the very bottom of the glass, but otherwise it is black. An off-white, quarter-inch head foams up and then quickly fades into a few wisps on the surface.

SMELL: Pleasant and soft roasted malt on the nose with a coffee and chocolate backbone. Upon sticking my nose in the glass a second time, I'm getting some nuttiness as well.

TASTE: Light, milk chocolate coming through big time, especially up front. Some undertones of coffee sneak in early on and build along with a slight bitter hoppiness towards the finish.

MOUTHFEEL: This 2X is insanely easy to drink. Very light bodied for a stout. Sweet up front, dry in the back and creamy throughout. The 7.5% ABV is nowhere to be found in this thing.

OVERALL: If you want to find a dangerous beer, this is it. It is super easy to drink, but at the same time very tasty and full of flavor.

Black with a thin off-white head.

Very slightly milky nose.

Chocolate hardly comes through and the hops are too prevalent. Narwhal gets by with meaner hops because it's rich, this is far from. Even when the lactose kicks in it's still a tame bore of a stout.

Too carbonated for the style. Stain is mild.

12oz bottle, dated about 7 months ago, so I wonder how sensitive it is to age sitting in a beer store. Pours with a big head that settles pretty quickly with lacing. Dark black but shows a little reddish brown light around the edges. Pretty standard roasted smell. Taste is rich, sweet, with some bitter chocolate. Mouthfeel is a little astringent, some carbonation, pretty smooth. Overall, a decent milk stout but has room for improvement. As I said, this had been in the store for about 7 months.

Pours a HUGE, dense, tan head with nice lacing. Starts with toasted malt, and moves into a nice floral hop aroma, with a touch of coffee-like acidity/roastedness. Black color. Starts with a DEEP, rich, toasted malt with a touch of acidity. In the middle, it moves into a nice medium bitterness, which turns into a touch of grapefruit hop flavor. Finish brings back the toasted malt.

If this were a bit thicker in the mouthfeel and less hoppy, it would be stunning.
