A: It's an extremely dark shade of brown, but it is clear enough that you can tell it is not hazy...but still very very dark. The head is a light fluffy tan color that leaves fair good lacing. Lots of different dark shades of brown and some reds make it through this beer. It looks excellent.

S: Well it definitely does smell like Christmas. It's hard to pick out individual spices, but I can tell that there is a lot going on here. Mostly I just smell cinnamon. Lots and lots of cinnamon. There is also a fruity scent to it that I can't quite put my finger on...sort of rose-like but more fruity and less floral. Not a whole lot of malt character coming through. The hops are subdued and I can't smell them. Some alcohol comes through.

T: The malt comes out a lot more here. I wouldn't call it caramel but more of a clean malt flavor. That fruity flavor comes in again. I don't like reading bottles because it influences perception of taste and smell when you can read what's in the beer, but I had to figure out what that flavor was. The beer label states that they use fig and orange peel. I suppose it could be these but it doesn't quite taste like fig to me. Some banana flavor also comes in. The cinnamon is not overpowering as the scent might lead. I really like this and it fits the whole Christmas theme. A semi-floral aftertaste. While drinking, I feel like I can taste the water in the beer somewhat...it's hard to describe...it's not watery or anything but there's some backbone flavor to it...if that makes sense.

M: Mouthfeel is a bit heavy and wet. It has a smoothness to it. The alcohol is not burning, and the beer does not feel like it needs aging before drinking. It feels very "together".

O: Overall I feel that this has qualities that would win people over, even if they are not fans of spice beers. I would recommend it to those who enjoy Belgian style dark ales. It's very easy to drink and tastes great.

OKAY, words cannot describe how bad this beer is. It has a beautiful color just like the 2X IPA, but it smells like a bad candle. And the taste, what on earth were they thinking? First off to take a beer as hoppy and citrisy as their 2X IPA and mix it with cinnamon seems bad enough, but it's like they put half a container of it in every beer. It has a painful taste, like chugging a bottle of cinnamon, I truly have no idea how anyone enjoys this beer and at the craft beer store I work at it is EASILY the most hated beer among the staff not just of the seasonals but of any beers. Never would expect this from Southern Tier.

If you love spices, especially cloves, you're in for a treat. Unfortunately, I despise cloves! Sadly, it's the 1st beer I've EVER poured down the drain after having 2 sips. Wish I checked my BA app before buying the 6 pack. My fault.

On tap at Yardhouse.
Deep red-brown with a head that soon reduced to a ring. Minimal lacing.
Both the aroma and the flavor reflect a heavy use of nutmeg. There are some other spices in here too, but the overall spicing level is just too high, largely masking the malts.

Poured a clear ruby red body with a half finger cap of bubbly off-white head. Overall impression of appearance is of a nice red ale if it were to be said to be any style, though overall it's rather unique in appearance. Scents of orange peel upfront mingled with mulling spices providing spicy and sweet depth, dark fruit is also present, fittingly figs, with notes of red wine also present, though in a mulled manner. Malt adds a light caramel character with some toasted notes. Overall impression of aroma is of mulled wine, but transformed to a beer. It is wonderfully spicy, with the orange peel also on full display, balanced by lovely malt. A beer glogg. Fantastic. Flavor begins by following aroma, sweet mulling spices balanced by orange peel, sweet fig and nicely sweet malt. Middle continues these flavors with orange peel and sweet mulled wine evident. Finish is lightly sweet, yet balanced, with caramel-like malt combining with orange peel, mulling spices and dark fruit to create a complex whole. Aftertaste is orange peel and mulling spices. Overall impression of flavor is of an amazing beer, one that defied my expectations. It is truly a beer glogg and wonderfully pleasant. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with light carbonation and a smooth warming feel. Ovreally impression of mouthfeel is of an amazing winter ale. Overall this is a fantastic glogg-inspired ale. It has a rich, warming aroma and flavor complimented by a lovely mouthfeel. A truly unique and excellent beer, and after Pumking and Warlock it restored my faith in Southern Tier.

Way too heavy on the ginger. Taste similar to a very bitter shaving cream.

Not for me. Way too much spice. I haven't dumped a beer down the drain since summer, but this was just not enjoyable for me. My ratings were generous.

A decent holiday offering from Southern Tier...

I really like the color of this brew though there was no head or lacing of worth. The smell was all about Christmas - figgy, cinnamony, spicy, even a sweet tang to the nose. The mouthfeel was a mixture of high carbonation with spicy sensation and a creamy texture that was definitely there. All those spices and figs and whatnot didn't equate to something I truly found tasty, but it was a worthwhile brew and one I would offer up to friends the next Christmas that rolls around.

Ruby brown in color. The nose is spicy but nutmeg stands out above anything else. The flavor profile includes seasonal spices such as nutmeg and allspice but also orange as well. The finish is semi-dry.

This is a pretty darn good Christmas beer.

Poured into a nonic a deep amber tinged brown with very little head to speak of,what there was was off white color.Deep fig and winter spice notes in the nose, alcohol and fruit cake notes linger.Candied figs with the orange peel underneath on the palate, cakey and rich with mild drying hops to keep the sweetness from going over the top.The lack of carbonation is actually good in the feel,it's mellow and almost chewey.A real warmer and true to the CHRISTmas season.

A: A medium-dark copper with good clarity. The head a a better than average retention and is light tan.

S: The cardamom with it's lemony slight exotic notes and the clove are the first things I smell which blend very nicely with the orange peel aroma. It doesn't smell overly spice, it smells balanced and restrained like a brew that wants to let you taste a beer not potpourri. There is a light malt sweetness and touch of caramel and if there are any citrus hops the'd be covered by the orange peel and cardamom. There is a light fruit aroma as well of figs and prunes. There is a moderately-light ginger aroma that kind of ties everything together.

T: The figs come through in the flavor with moderate spice flavors of cinnamon and ginger with lighter flavors of clove and ginger. There is some lemony flavor and orange peel as well. The malt sweetness provides support and is paired with a moderately-light hops bitterness. The balances is slight sweet with a medium finish.

M: A medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. A very light prickle of astringency on the tongue that is unavoidable when brewing with spices and doesn't detract.

O: Not a bad holiday spiced beer that showcases the spices but has enough balance to still drinkable. I was nervous when about the brewers description saying this is double spiced but is isn't as strongly spiced as other beers I have both commercial and homebrewed.
