A festive glass of cheer. Reddish dark amber is fairly clear and topped with a size arable head that leaves decent. Nose has a load of spices. Seriously, a holiday party crashes your nose with all the weight of Santa. Ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves caramel sweetness dark fruit from the figs. Taste is not for the faint of holiday spice heart. Strong ginger notes front the beer as the malt and figs sweeten the undercurrent. Not as much bread or grain flavors as I would like. It continues with an astringent clove bitterness in the finish. No trace of the alcohol. Feel is tingly and smooth. I don't see myself seasoning this but enjoyable. Not subtle or accessible but a good holiday sipper for December. It definitely brings the Christmas spirit!

Got a 6 pack of this as one of my Christmas gifts this year. Poured into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a clear, medium to dark copper/amber color with a slightly off-white head that's about an inch thick when first poured that eventually settles to a nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with a nice film layer of surface foam. not much lacing though. Aromas of cinnamon, clove, allspice, and a bit of pepper are all nicely present along with the caramel malt goodness. Flavors of some toasted caramel malts along with some the aforementioned cinnamon, clove, allspice, and pepper along with hints of orange peel and a slight bit of coriander. The flavor profile seems a bit heavy on the spices, just slightly too heavy for what I prefer even for this beer style. Not much discernible hop flavor here, just a slight lingering hop bitterness to round out the flavor profile. Has a slightly crisp, mainly smooth and slightly frothy, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink. A pretty solid beer here.

DATE TASTED: December 27, 2015... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip...OCCASION: ... APPEARANCE: dark, ruby-brown body that is almost opaque; small, lonely bubbles are present; the head recedes to an off-white ring that suggests heavier alcohol than the normal ale provides--no lacing... AROMA: instantaneous impression of spruce, pine, and port... a second breath brings cinnamon, clove, allspice, pepper and slight hints of citrus--quite a bowl full of punch... PALATE: full-bodied, frothy, vibrant and warming, especially at the throat... a scotch-like complexity, smooth, memorable and long at the finish... TASTE: cinnamon, vanilla, allspice, chocolate, complex sugars, some dry wine, pine, and citrus suggests a punch bowl of flavors... the malts are engaging, with bread and natural elements reminiscent of a walk in the woods ...OVERALL: with quite a return for every sip, this holiday offering is sweet, strong, and slowly sippable... further, this is a seasonal whose price tag makes it even more alluring... still waiting to be disappointed by a Southern Tier offering, but it will not be tonight

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a pint glass

This beer pours a rust color with copper and burnt orange highlights. It is topped with less than an inch of tan head that leaves little lacing.

It has a spruce and clove aroma. I get some cinnamon and clove as it warms.

Now I get the orange peel in the taste. It is complimented by the spices that I smelled.

Medium mouthfeel

This is not a bad Christmas ale. It has the traditional holiday flavor.
