Sessionable, but not thin with an excellent soft head. Somewhere between copper and gold, smells lightly of citra hops. Tastes clean and balanced. Slightly of citrus though a bit plain, the taste is good but light.

Appearance: Light hazy yellow, bountiful white cap, decent lacing.

Aroma: Earthy, spicy hops first, some citrus, little malt.

Taste: A little fuller than I expected, at 5.5% perhaps the word Session is just a descriptor. Hops forward, mouth puckeringly astringent hops. Not in a negative way because the taste is pleasant, but definitely hoppy. I searched for the four varieties of malt used but they kept running away and hiding behind the hops.

Texture: Fairly full and the overall profile being better for it.

Overall: The brewer says this is a Citrusy Session Pale Ale. I say good game but I don't think they'll take the Conference Title.

Poured into pint glass. It pours a cloudy, honey color with a one-finger, egg white head and lacing. It smells of malt, floral hops, and pineapple. The taste starts with a malty, bready backbone, with pineapple up front, followed by dry, bitter hops and pine. Considering it's an ABA, it is medium-bodied and nicely carbonated. The moderate ABV of 5.5% makes for very easy drinking. Overall, it is light, dry, hoppy, and very drinkable - a great combination!

A- Slightly hazy gold with a white head
S- Citrus, hint of floral hops, pineapple
T- More citrus, hoppy but not overpowering in the least, grain
M- light and crisp
O- Tasty and flavorful light pale ale. Worthy contender for great session ale.

Liked it more than I thought I would. Citrusy hops, bready malts. A great APA to start with. Closely resembles an IPA without too much bite. Very drinkable. Will be searching for this one in the coming months.

1/24....pours yellowish bronze, ring of white foam. Lemon rind, grassy meadow nose. Soft lemons, citrus malt flavor. Tight hop. Real tight. Peppery (black pepper). Very fresh, lots of rind in there.

A good citrusy smell with a balanced piney/citrus taste. The color is a light gold toward the bottom, leading to a darker gold and a small head. Good, but not overpowering, carbonation. Perfect on a warm day.

Bottle. I found this quite underwhelming. I can see how it could be refreshing on a warm summer's day, but it doesn't compare to some of the other session IPAs (Founders, Green Flash). It is citrusy, but in some respects tastes more like a lemonade radler than a citra-hopped session IPA.

I really like this beer! It is moderately bitter, with terrific piney and citrusy tastes. I believe its taste is strongly influenced by Mosaic hops, which is a favorite of mine.

12 oz bottle

Pours near clear lighter amber, moderate lite khaki head, leaving a nice looking fine film and some ringed sheeting.

Nose of piney hops

Easy drinking and quite enjoyable, moderate and smooth hop presence. Breads malt providing the balance and drink ability .

Worth a try

I enjoyed this. A bit cocerned about freshness as it's DOB was early September and I'm drinking New Years Eve, but that's not the brewers fault. Lots of citrus and pleasant to taste.

I thought this Live was a nice little beer! It poured a clear golden with white head that did not lace. The scent was a gorgeous mix of pine and citrus. The taste was a nicely balanced brew that leaned bitter with pine and citrus base. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was quite nice!

DATE TASTED: December 3, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: prepping for a good Friday a bit early on Thursday... APPEARANCE: hazy, busy, lively body that offers a mountain of cloud--puffy, white, with crags and nooks like a rock face...its resilience is noticeable...excellent half-finger head laces admirably into camo-like patterns....AROMA: bright punch of citrus--grapefruit and orange peel; the breadiness--as promised by the label--is appreciable... PALATE: a rather rounded, easy-drinking pale ale, with a smooth, undistinguished finish; a bit dry for a pale...light to medium-bodied... TASTE: a strange, lemony flavor pervades the citrus profile, with the malts wrestling for control over the experience... enough dough to mistake the drink for a something more British...worth noting the orange one more time... OVERALL: tough to say for a Southern Tier, but not an improvement over their original pale... applaud them for trying something new or different, but the hops are blanketed by malts and the hops are one-dimensional and soft.... not really what was hoped for...

Slightly cloudy gold with lemon citrus notes. Hops are somewhat one dimensional. Feels a bit thin but extremely drinkable. Refreshing beer, just wish it had some more body.

More like a session ipa than a pale ale. Needs more malt or sweetness. A touch thin and metallic. Nice citrus hop smell but the lack ness in body makes this one just a so so enjoyment .

Pours a hazy medium gold producing 2 fingers of frothy, off-white, moderately lasting head that leaves sheets & streaks of lace. Aroma is pale & biscuit malt, a little graham cracker, notes of floral, lemon juice & zest, grass & a hint of onion. Taste is grapefruit & lemon, earthy floral, thin pineapple & grass hop notes, pale malt, biscuit & light pepper, finishing lightly tropical with a dry mineral hint backed by a light hoppy bitterness that becomes the dominant character of the bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation, silky with a pepper bite & dry in the finish & aftertaste.

This beer pours a light orange gold color with a big bright white head with little retention and good lacing. The smell is citra hops as advertised. Not overwhelming, but lemon and orange are most noticable with a hint of grassiness. Taste is much the same. Feel is light, but not watered down. Overall very crushable but still has a great deal of flavor. Definitely a good golf course beer.

Pours into glass as a cloudy light orange gold color with a nice off white head. Aroma hits the nose and immediately you get the Citra hop notes. I love Citra hops and the taste of this beer nails exactly what I was looking for and smelled! Citrusy, fruity upfront taste with minimal malty backbone but no over bitterness, the beer is almost sweet but not too sweat. More of an IPA than an APA. Overall, it's one of my all time favs, if I see it in liquor stores, I must buy it, a lot of it!!

Both the aroma and taste are full of bright citrus with just the slightest hints of grass and pine resin. The light body never approaches "watery" territory, and is able to carry the flavors well on a subtle grainy malt backbone. That's a damn solid pale ale. At 5.5% it's definitely NOT a session ale, but that's ok with me. I can't taste marketing buzzwords. This is another beer I always tended to pass by for more "exciting" options on the shelf. But having recently tried it for the first time, it's safe to say I'll be drinking more of this.

First had poured from 12-oz. bottle into tulip. Southern Tier calls this a Citrusy Session Pale Ale. At 5.50 ABV, it slightly stretches the definition of "sessionable," but not the desire to have more than one.
