Bottled 03/13/12

A: Pours a golden orange color with a finger and a half's worth of slightly darker than white head

S: Nice hops, including grapefruit, grass, and very light pine. Some light malt as well

T: Follows the nose, with most of the hops leaning towards the grassy side. Bready malts as well, along with a slightly metallic twang. Nice bitter finish that doesn't last too long but makes its presence known

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Too light and not enough hop oils

O: Certainly not the best IPA out there, but it's still solid and drinkable, even at 7.3%. Wouldn't seek it out for a couple reasons (one being that 2XIPA is better and the same price) but would definitely drink it again if the opportunity came up

A- Bright golden yellow pour into my DFH glass. Decent finger and a half bright white head that lazily relaxes and retreats into the glass leaving a nice ring of sticky foam, slowly fading down the sides of the glass.

S- Notes of wet hay, day old grass clippings, pine trees in the fall, Black Tea, candied lemon peel, tangerine, and malt. This seems more English than American for an IPA... or maybe it's just not as overdone as most newer American style IPA's are. It's a nice change of pace.

T- It seems as if you can pick out all of the different malts and hops used in this IPA. Each bringing it's own unique notes and melody to the tastebuds. Some very floral notes of... wildflowers, orange blossoms, tea, straw, and honeysuckles... and some very Earthy notes of grain, pine needles, fermentation, and compost...
Definately seems more like a British IPA to me.

M- No HUGE punch of citrus... more about balance of grain, hop and yeast. Has a wonderful balance of subtle sweetness, floral hops, and a down home earthiness that makes this one a winner!

O- This is one of those brews that doesn't seem to overwhelm or fatigue your palate. Very nicely balanced! Lively carbonation... a grassy fresh feel, and a really nice balance that seems to have gotten lost on most American style IPA's. Once again... very well done Southern Tier!

Pours a solid deep golden color with a fluffy white head that shows moderate retention and leaves some nice lace on the way down. Smells of citrus and pine with a solid bready caramel malt backbone. Could use a bit more aroma hops. Taste is classic old school ipa, bready caramel grapefruit and pine. It works. Medium body and moderate level of carbonation with a sweet slick mouthfeel. Solid IPA, I would never turn one down, but in the sea of craft these days I'm not sure it stands out enough to seek out.

12oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.

pours a clear, bright golden honey tone with less than a finger of foamy, off-white head; so-so retention, decent lacing.

nose is dominated by citrus with notes of pine, maybe a little malt loitering in the background. real nice aroma, though doesn't necessarily set itself apart from a bunch of good ones out there. some sweet maltiness leads the way in the taste, though the citrus hops are immediately behind, carrying through into a hoppy-bitter finish. well balanced.

medium-light bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation. while it might not blow you out of the water it's a tasty, enjoyable IPA. would make a great option for backyard BBQs.
