Bottle into a pint glass

Dark golden color with about a finger of bubbly white head. Scent of hops is present but is not overpowering. Malt backbone is also present in the scent giving this a very even scent. The even, balance translates very well into the taste. The hops are present, but are not as up front in this tasting from the bottle as they are on draft. Very well balanced makes this lighter in the mouth and makes it very smooth and easy to drink. This is a local and a go to beer for me, and I highly recommend it if you can get it fresh.

Poured into a pint glass and welcomed a lucid foam finger's worth on top; level carbonation, and a punch of hoppy complexity with the first sip. It probably matters that this was preceded by my downing a Heavy Seas' 3-hop IPA -- itself an admirable effort but falling short of Southern Tier's mellow-pressurized irresistibility. I can be overwhelmed by hops in some beers and others leave me wanting more but Southern tier finds enough balance for me to leave my former top-preferred SN IPA behind. This flavor wants to linger on the tongue same as the foam clings to the sides of the glass. If it were any sweeter I'd find myself craving more grass notes or wheaty compliance -- something to consider when choosing which occasions to introduce to friends not familiar with it. It has always done well from the tap at local dining spots where I find it regularly, but I'm glad to find it accessible for home consumption too.
