This is a Lager that is fermented at Ale temperature with addition fo California hops that grows at warmer temperature.
Amber whiskey color with a good head with good retention.
Nice hoppy floral aroma.
Very particular taste, sweet malt with notes of guaranĂ¡, condiments, pine, bourbon and flowers. Super dry aftertaste.
Full body with medium carbonation, 8% ABV is well hidden and it gives a warming feeling when the beer warms up.
Interesting beer, drinkability is not that high though.

16 ounce pint - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Woodstock, Georgia.

Appearance: Dark orange-gold body, fairly clear, with some steady streams of carbonation. Inch-high white head, decent lacing produced.

Smell: Muted aroma. I thought I'd give it some time to warm up, maybe that's the problem. I was watching the opening ceremonies for a soccer match. Question to soccer fans: do they always cart out kids and light up smiles faker than the flopping prior to every game? Nearly a solid thirty later, it's still pretty dull. A little yeastiness, whisper of honey/toffee, and a sniff of booze.

Taste: Lightly toasty breadiness, an initial kick of sweetish toffee. Fruity touches of apricot, apple throughout. Earthy, woodsy, lightly citrusy hops open up with a medium-plus bitterness to temper the sweetness. Drying, bittersweet, lightly fruity finish.

Mouthfeel: A bit of over medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel overall.

Overall: Letting it ride as a somewhat bigger, somewhat bolder beer it was fine.

Amber brew. A bit coppery. Not much head to dredge up. Understandable at 8%.

Unexpectedly sweet malty aroma. Notes of treacle, golden raisin, toast, and some lingering booze. Hop profile comes off with Euro flair. I am confused.

Nope, this is a miss. Lots of alcohol, might be the primary flavor component followed by sugary malts, white grape, astringent floral hops, and toast. Not worth laboring through. Underneath the booze, it tastes decent, if not a little too sweet and too malty. This was brewed for the sake of brewing it. They shouldn't have bottled and sold this.

Body - medium-plus; carbonation - light... but, all I'm thinking about is how atrociously boozy this is. No, it doesn't feel good.

A rough one. I'm finishing it because it's engrained in me that I have to. Drink something else, or like me, learn the hard way.

Bottled 4/30/13. Poured into a boring ol' shaker pint on 5/19/13.

Appearance: Orange. Maybe a finger or two of off-white head. Either way, it doesn't last long. No lacing. The beer may have a slight haze, but it's very clear.

Smell: Really very sweet. When I exhale, I swear I almost get a cotton candy aroma. A lot of malts, but there are some grassy hops in there as well. Really smells good.

Taste: First sip was insanely sweet with a strange metallic note. The metallic note didn't come back after that first sip, but I'm still not sure how I feel about this. Something that this beer does to my tastebuds confuses me. It offers that "off-bitterness" that I get in some beers (mostly adjunct lagers), but in a very slight way. 2x Steam is really sweet almost the whole way through though, so that "off" bitterness doesn't bother me quite as much. The main problem I have with this beer though, I think, is that I just don't find it all that interesting. This is a relatively high ABV beer that drinks easily and hides the alcohol very well, but there aren't really any notes that stick out to me. On the plus side, I like this quite a lot more than the other few steam beers I've had in the past. I assume it's because of the ABV and the balancing of this one, but this one drinks better/easier than those.

Not bad, but Southern Tier has better beers out there. Their 2x IPA and 2x Stout are much better than this. Not to say this beer is terrible, but I was expecting greatness -- I guess I got my hopes up too high. This beer just lacks flavor, to be quite honest... it mostly tastes of sweetness with a trace of hops. Definitely worth trying at least once to form your own opinion.

Pour is a nice clean copper, nice and translucent. 1/4 finger of dense white head, fading quickly.

Nose has some banana, honey, lemon, and fresh corn. Not super potent.

Taste is pretty malt predominant, with a smattering of caramel up front, and a finish of straw and grass notes as well. Leaves a lingering dryness. Slightest hint of dry spice. Certainly hides the alcohol.

Feel is surprisingly thick for the style. Feels almost creamy in the mouth.

Interesting beer. Not my favorite style, but fun to try. A little too thick to drink on a hot day, probably a better springtime beer. Not going to get again, but glad I picked up a 6 to give a chance to.

12 oz.

Pours a clear copper amber with a fine white head at an eighth of an inch, slow dissipation.

Smells of brown sugar, coppery barley malts, and buttered bread.

Light buttered bread malt flavor, some mild caramel, a hint of slightly bitter hop, and a vanilla cream element.

Medium creamy body with a light tingle of carbonation on the tongue.

A very good and underrated beer in my opinion, a really enjoyable mouthfeel and great flavor, hides its strength well, easy to like, definitely will have this again.

S: A light copper colored beer with good clarity. A low long-lasting head

A: Some moderate fruity esters like peaches and a little apricot with light spice phenols. Some light hops aromas. A nice cracker and light caramel malt aroma.

T: A medium hops flavor with a medium hops bitterness. As in the nose there are a fair amount of light colored fruit flavors and a light spice note. A medium-light caramel and cracker like malt flavor with a light sweetness having a balance that is somewhat bitter. Some hops bitterness in the aftertaste.

M: A medium bodied beer with a medium-strong level of carbonation.

O: A hop focused beer with a fair amount of yeast character. A cool idea for a style that has been well executed.
