Very dark brew with a good aroma of pumpkin spice. Just kind of got tired of this very quickly. The alcohol takes over a bit when it warms. Don't think i'll have again.

Poured from 22oz bottle.

Smells almost like peanut butter toast- in a good way. Dark roast and pumpkin- but my nose interprets this as PB on whole wheat toast.

As usual for Southern Tier, the palate is hit with pronounced and intense flavor. Gingerbread, pumpkin chocolate cookies, chocolate brownie, burnt cookie, bold bitterness and some substantial sweetness. Instead of canceling each other, these elements seem to hold each other in tension which makes the whole flavor even more intense.

Conclusion: Totally unusual. Unlike any pumpkin beer on the market that I am aware of. It doesn't quite jive with my preferences, but it is awesome for its totally unique quality. Worth trying, but it is on the opposite end of the spectrum from a smooth drinking approachable "big" beer.

I'm sure my score will come down to earth but this is an outstanding beer. Aroma is off the charts, and the balance of a big malty base with many overtones of pumpkin and chocolate makes this the best new pumpkin entry I have had in a long time.

Naturally pumpkin recipes run the gamut, so this may not be to other's liking, but it's a home run for me.

To be honest, I am shocked that this beer has gotten decent reviews. To me, this was a cloyingly sweet, boozy mess with an oddly artificial and overpowering pumpkin pie spice flavor. There was no cohesion between the two styles and made me think that they shouldn't be brought together. I rarely resort to a drain pour, but I did in this case.

22 oz bomber poured into a tulip glass.

A - Black, viscous, with a half finger head that moves to nothing very quickly.

S - Serious pumpkin pie, gingerbread, brown sugar.

T - Follows the nose, mixed with some underlying chocolate and cinnamon.

M - Thick, heavy, carbonation is low. Somewhat chewy.

O - It was interesting comparing this to my notes from last year that I forgot to post (one year to the day), they were very similar. This is a great desert beer to split with another.
