Stopped by here 8 28 09 as a part of a weekend with my brother in which we rode our bikes around Lake Chautaqua (42 or 43 miles), caught an Elvis Costello show at the Institute and visiting this place and Wegman's. Great weekend!

Atmoshphere. Southern Tier, first off, is not easy to find. It is on the East end of a long building (a business park) and the signage out on the road is not prominent. As mentioned here on BA, mapquest and my GPS were not able to find it perfectly accurately either. Anyway, once found there is what appears to be the corporate or business entrance and then immediately to the left is the "Empty Pint" pub (love the name) complete with a small outdoor beer garden basically on a wooden deck. Walk through that (there are like 12 tables maybe out there) and then into the bar where there are an additional 3 tables and a rather small (6 to 8 stools) bar on the right with 5 to 6 taps. The back wall has souvenirs for sale as well as bombers on sale for $4.99. There was also very decent music playing (Beatles, Billy Joel classics) while we were there. That is appreciated. I like the atmosphere. The pub, albeit small, brings a nice modern, urban feel to a pretty rural area. It is clean but warm and inviting and, at least when I went, is filled with people who care about beer.

Quality: Well the beer is presented well in proper glassware and of course the only options are from Southern Tier. Quality was just fine.

Service: As mentioned above, friendly people, one of the "bartenders" was also a brewer as he told us about making the ST OAT earlier that day. That is cool.

Selection: As expected, only Southern Tier selections available here but they are wide ranging and very good.

An excellent location full of beautiful wood, tall ceilings, and ample outdoor space. The Empty Pint is the main bar with food, indoor seating, outdoor seating (covered in winter), and views of large fermentation vessels through huge pane windows. Upstairs is another weekend-only tasting room for tour finishes and flights. Outdoors includes a stage, picnic tables, and games to play. Service is always good, even when busy. I've toured this place a number of times and have always enjoyed it. This really is a beautiful brewery, best experienced on a nice summer day with plenty of time to spend.

Seriously in the middle of nowhere, it is surprising (almost shocking) to take a turn into an industrial park and find the sprawling, tourist-ready campus of Southern Tier. They recently expanded and now have a tasting room, the “Empty Pint” pub and plenty of outdoor space with live music. This is one of those "destination breweries" ready for the big crowds.

The pub does get busy, so if you’re not having food I would recommend climbing that steep flight of stairs and chilling at the quiet, air-conditioned tasting room.

The place overall is fun and the employees are efficient and friendly, but I was disappointed by the lack of good brews on tap. I was expecting to find Choklat, Crème Brulee and all the imperial goodies I love, but they had none of those, except for the new and delicious Salted Caramel.

Still, 14 taps, served in 4-8-12-16 oz (and growlers). A couple of brewery-only specials, including the tasty New School IPA and a funky Imperial Cherry Gose.

Food is simple but super tasty- grilled goat-cheese sandwich, chips with cheddar dip and pickles. I dig it.

I had been wanting to visit Southern Tier for years and years and I am glad I finally made it. But I wouldn’t rush to go back or drive out of the way to come here.

A nice sized parking lot leads to a wide open interior with high ceilings and sun-welcoming windows, yet they still manage to keep it lit just right in the middle of the day. There is a huge back door opening to a wide open, pseudo-beer garden with a stage and what seems like some pretty regular music. Southern Tier has a pretty cool vibe and interior.

They have a really wide selection of their own beers ranging every style including a few styles you might not have known they dabble in if you, like me, are very familiar with seeing them in your local supermarkets and bars. The quality is pretty consistent, and the beers they excel in, (dessert beers), are over the top when fresh. Sweet is the angle Southern Tier comes from, and the sweetness seems a bit stronger than the bottle when the beers are pouring out of these taps.

The food here is the primary let down. First, you can't order food until a certain time, and when that time comes, everybody else knows about it too, so a pretty long line forms at a podium. They take your order fairly swiftly depending on the people in front of you, and the food comes out shockingly fast, so, in the end, that's not the problem. Yet, that's where the problem lies, as they are obviously just warming up some funky fried or baked food products that might satisfy the little tikes, but is a little disappointing to adults and the sort of craft beer lovers that enjoy sampling new or unique things made with love.

However, overall, the place provides a nice experience, and has plenty of beers to take home, some being semi-rare. Kegs are available as well.

Stop #483 on world brewery tour. Visited around 6:30 on a wonderful mid-70 degree Thursday evening in late August. They had an event going on with food from a catered grill. It was crowded but we found a table at the outside patio and felt at one with high-end nature. The only knock I can give is that most all the beers on tap are available in my home market of Cincinnati. Would have been nice to see some other styles or variations.

Pulled in at about 9:30 PM while traveling. It's about 10-15 minutes off interstate 86, somewhat out there on its own. Kitchen was closed, but the taps were open and the place was full. Grabbed a couple of six packs to go and hit the road. Very nice place. Looking forward to going back when I can enjoy it.

Brewery is beautiful. Food was excellent and came out fast. There's not a beer they make that I don't like.

I didn't have any food, but some people in my group did and said it was above average brewpub food. Nice big selection of ST brews on tap, and the service was attentive and courteous. Will definitely be back.

Stopped by last week on the way to Buffalo from Indy. Have wanted to go to Southern Tier for years and am glad my brothers and I finally did. I was taken by the beauty of the area in Lakewood as well as the rustic quality of the brewery setting. Great outdoor area. Tried several beers and settled on pints of Harvest and Warlock. Both were great on a picturesque late summer afternoon. Pulled pork nachos were preyy good and the $6 growler fills on Hopsun were much appreciated.
