From BeerAdvocate Magazine #84 (Jan 2014):

Yup, clearly an IPA in this can. Great blend of Columbus and Cascade hops to flavor and bitter; the Simcoe and Cascade dry-hopping helps as well. By no means is this IPA over-hopped, but that hoppiness does stick to the palate throughout. Was hoping for a cleaner hoppiness, yet this works.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 7.0%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round

LOOK: Pale amber color, ample suds

SMELL: Juicy, citrus zest, orange pith, piney, guava, stone fruit, fresh grain, estery

TASTE: Mild carbonation, sturdy medium body, spicy hop resin, vegetal, fresh-cut grass, peppery, citrus pith, bread crust, melon rind, ripe pears, semi-aggressive hop bitterness, chalky, mildly astringent; dry, hoppy finish

My favorite staple IPA. Bright and crisp with a caramel sweet finish. Wonderful brew and always have some fresh cans in the fridge.

Had on tap at the Copper Grill and Bar @ the Bozeman, MT Airport

Appearance - Served up in a pint glass with a sliver of white head. The brew itself is clear and golden in color. The thin layer of suds maintain on the surface throughout.

Smell - Light citrus with an even lighter touch of pine. Hints of a bready malt backbone.

Taste - Like the nose, a light citrus flavor hitting on orange and a faint grapefruit bitterness. Light, bready malt backbone. The finish is light and lacks flavor.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with moderate carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall - Quite the average IPA. Nothing that'll grab the attention of the ol' tastbuds, but I don't mind sipping on it here as I kill time waiting for my flight.

This is a pretty hoppy IPA that's seemingly enjoyed by more transplants to the Bozeman area from other states than Montanans in general. I typically don't go over an IBU of 65 with beer, but the sugary malts in this beer make it a little more bearable. It's a well-brewed IPA that's on tap at just about every bar and restaurant in the Bozeman area.

Nice looks from this hometown beer: clear and golden with a nice head that leaves more than average lace on my snifter.

Very hoppy aromas of the citrus rind and evergreen needle sort. These hops assert themselves throughout the flavor experience as well. Malty sweetness makes an attempt to break through, but to my taste there isn't much effort to achieve balance in this IPA. The can lists this ale at 80 IBU--I would have guessed it to be even higher due to the significant bitterness at the end of the long finish.

Overall, I want to love this beer because in general I love IPAs, but the hops are just a bit too much on the side of aggressive and bitter. My impression is that this is a well crafted brew that's out to make a hops statement. A little much for me on this particular day, but I'll try this one again.
