The colour is amber (30 EBC), the liquid is clear. The three finger head is beige and very compact, it sinks slowly leaving thick lacing on the glass.
The clean smell is sweet and malty with some grapefruit hops. Hints of toffee, butterscotch and orange chocolate.
The taste is dry, semi-bitter and a little tart-harsh. Toffee and a touch of butter, grapefruit juice and orange peels. Medium body. The aftertaste is somewhat unbalanced with orange juice, brown sugar and bitter oranges. Hints of dough and golden syrup. The finish is harsh with sweet bread and some exotic fruits.
The carbonation is medium strong, the large bubbles are long-lived and a bit sharp. The liquid is a bit light and rather harsh.
Quite unbalanced and harsh. Will probably gain from a few years cellaring. But not a bad first try om strong ales from a major lager brewery.
