Styled after the Bohemian classic, Pilz is a crisp golden pilsner with an assertive hop character. With special Moravian heirloom barley malt, a traditional decoction mash creates a firm yet light body and deep golden color. Cold fermentation with a Czech lager yeast and lengthy secondary conditioning produce a brilliant beer that highlights the spicy and grassy Saaz hops. Authenticity in a glass; Pilz is beer.

Canned 10/5/23; drank 12/3/23 @ Pokemon Communion.

Semi-opaque orange/yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big bright white head; frothy lacing remained.

Fresh bread, mild oak & faint lemon notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Fresh bread, mild oak & faint lemon flavors.

Pleasant, balanced & flavorful. I'd have another!

12oz can poured into a SA perfect Pint glass

A- pours a clear straw color with a two-finger foamy white head that has great retention long after the pour and leaves some lacing behind

S- crackery pils malt with equal parts of spicy/peppery & floral hops. Undertones of bread dough, grass & lemon peel

T- toasted cracker malt up front, followed by an array of fruity esters that gives notes of lemon & pear. Mid-palate gives some spicy hops, along with light doughy malt. The finish gives more cracker malt and lingers of lemonheads candy and grassy hops

M- light body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish

O- flavorful, balanced and extremely drinkable

07.05.23 on bottom of can and on the 6-pack holder - high class. Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Clear pale yellow with 1-2 finger frothy white head with excellent retention and solid lacing.

S: Aroma is minerally, slight aspirin and sulfur/hot dog with soft, grassy pils malt with some sweetness with baguette type breadiness. Hopping is decidedly lemony and grassy-herbal. Clean without esters.

T: The flavor is solid but not as well matched mineral character with lemon citrus for me. I think of a Czech pils as bready and hoppy but not minerally - their water is very low in minerals. Quenching for sure with the lemon citrus and spicy, herbal grassy hop character. Clean and well-brewed with no esters. Bitterness is moderate and sharper due to the minerality and citrus hop character.

M: The feel is also a little less desirable due to the sharper character, which some may like. Light body with high carbonation and very dry finish.

O: Live Oak Pilz has nothing wrong with it - we’ll-crafted but is a bit too minerally and sharp for my taste.

Clear golden body with a less than grand, but solidly sufficient white head on the pour. A cold one right from the fridge doesn't offer much on the nose other than a grainy grassiness. The flavor at this temperature has some promise, but is short in the flavors that follow the nose, with a little bit of green pepper thrown in. Feel is medium light, and becomes a little softer as it warms.

Warmth brings a little dry bread to the nose and freshens up the grass a bit, but its still a drier grass. Flavor sweetens up slightly with a little bit of honey to give the impression of a fluffy honey roll. Another change comes with a little bit of lemon peel sneaking in just after this. This counters the back end bitterness nicely, and the beer finishes more balanced than the first few sips from a colder beer with a minerally grass bitterness.

From a can packaged 12/14/22. Clear gold/amber color with a good layer of white foamy head. Smells of straw. Medium body with good carbonation. Solid cracker malt flavor up front, followed by floral and peppery hops. Very nice

Thanks, Sam!

A clear straw yellow with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is soft, lemony, hoppy, bready, beautifully balanced with soft fermentation character. The palate opens with a great blend of soft dough, snappy cracker-like pils malt, balanced with a crisp, clean hop flavor, mildly lemony and dusty. Drying, cracker-like on the finish with a lingering soft oily hop character and snappy pils malt. Excellent.

Clear deep gold, bubbly, big foamy white head. Great retention and lacing.

Smells floral, sourdough bread crust, honey, white pepper.

Taste is lightly sweet, malt-forward, toasted bread, honey, white cracker; followed by snappy hop bitterness, bell pepper flesh, white pepper, hint of grass. Slightly sulphuric. Bitterness lingers just slightly.

Well carbonated, pretty hefty body for its abv, super drinkable.

Excellent Czech style pilsner! Nails the style.

This brewery is on my must-visit for 2023. The pre-war pils were fabulous. Looking forward to this beer. I am using my Bruery flute glass at 42 degrees. A frothy and airy two-fingered head was created from the pour. The head retention is above-average. The slow dissipation left some lacing on the glass. Charting the color around SRM 4 pale straw with golden hues. The clarity is clear with some carbonation bubbles. The appearance of the beer is above-average.
Nosing the glass, I smell crackers, a hint of floral, a touch of white pepper, and slight malty sweetness. The aromas are clean, and no off-aromas were noticed.
The flavors are crackers, malty sweetness, floral esters, white pepper, a touch of bay leaves, and some yeast.
The mouthfeel is dry and finishes crisp. The body is light and has medium-high carbonation.
I have drank five out of the six-pack. I wanted to consume this one before I reviewed it. This beer is a delight to drink, especially during the summer. I wish I had a fridge full; alas, I do not.

Quintessential Czech pilsner. Crisp, delicious, refreshing. Not fancy, but it doesn't need to be or try to be. Just a very solid choice. I prefer this style one notch more than the north German pilsner style of the Live Oak Gold.
