Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Modeled after the classic wheat beers of Bavaria, Hefeweizen is cloudy and straw-colored with a meringue-like head that lingers to the bottom of the glass. Brewed with an ample volume of wheat malt and few hops, this beer features a unique yeast strain that produces harmonious notes of clove, banana, and vanilla throughout this effervescent brew. A traditional interpretation of a classic style, this idiosyncratic Bavarian beer is perfectly at home here in Texas.

Hazy cloudy pale orange body, lacks head, appears concoctiony.
Smell is wheatlike clove and banana fruit. Nice nice aroma.
Taste is as flavorful as I could expect after sniffing it: same characteristic notes, but with a slight medicinal aspect to it, but in a tasty way with that outstanding clove note. Refreshing nonetheless. Highly so.
Feel is medium-light, crisp bite/ medium carbonation.
Refreshing from the can, too. There’s something to the quality here. The reputation and high reviews seem justified. Only had it on tap a few years back, and it was memorable. And then I just caught this at a Specs, and the last box at that. The rest will go camping next week, among others, but this is the stuff I’ll break out to beat the heat of the day.

Pours a nice bright, hazy sunshine with a thick white head of big bubbles that dissipates swiftly.
Nose is a bit funky, yeasty, some banana and summer squash scents.
Tastes of bitter citrus rind, some melon, some hint of holiday spice.
Mouthfeel is nice and crisp, very effervescent on the tongue, very clean.
Overall a fine beer but it seems a lot sharper and a bit more bitter than the hefeweizen I'm familiar with. Still a great option for a hot summer day, and would probably benefit from an orange slice.

Started drinking this beer 5 years ago when living in Austin. Since they canned it, it's always in my fridge.

Thanks to r0rscach for this splendid example of a Bavarian style here.
It really hits all the marks for style. I'm not the biggest fan of the style, but this one is the real deal.

The best Hefeweizen I’ve had up to date. I’ve drank it routinely for the past year or so and not grown tired of it. It always has a nice head, wonderful aroma and is a great balance of vanilla, clove and banana.
