Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Modeled after the classic wheat beers of Bavaria, Hefeweizen is cloudy and straw-colored with a meringue-like head that lingers to the bottom of the glass. Brewed with an ample volume of wheat malt and few hops, this beer features a unique yeast strain that produces harmonious notes of clove, banana, and vanilla throughout this effervescent brew. A traditional interpretation of a classic style, this idiosyncratic Bavarian beer is perfectly at home here in Texas.

Pours gold. Short, foamy, Whitehead that Fades fast.

Smells wheat, yeast funk, clove, spice and banana.

Taste Citrus, wheat, clove, banana, yeast Funk and a little sweetness. Finishes semi-dry with yeast and citrus linger. Lighter medium body and smooth medium carbonation.

Interesting Hef with a nice, creamy texture. Unique, almost smoky finish. Moderate, subdued CO2.

Gold in color with a fingernail of dishwater white around the rim. The aroma is an enticing blend of banana and a hint of clove. I'm tasting pale wheat and banana. The mouth is lit, crisp, and a touch watery.

My all time favorite beer. Vanilla, banana, and clove hints. Very tasty.

Finally got to try this while I was down in Austin for a business trip. Pours super cloudy yellow color with a dense white head that doesn't quit. Big Bavarian aroma on this, sweet wheat with tons of spice. Flavor is about the same, good dose of sweetness that is washed away by wheaty grain notes and lots of clove and banana. Could drink this all day in the Texas heat. Really something special here and the beer could definitely rival it's European brethren from Bayern.

I just had the Live Oak Hefeweizen on tap at a restaurant in Austin.

Look: hazy golden hue with a thin white head.

Aroma: wheat, yeast, banana

Taste: Wheat, banana bread, yeast, a tad orange/citrus. It had a fairly mild flavor but it was very well balanced and the flavor was still distinct and inviting.

Feel: Perhaps a bit thin yet tasty and thirst quenching in the Texas heat.

Golden straw, slightly hazy. Lots of bubbles streaming up. Aroma- breadth yeast, banana, grass, orange. Taste- banana, orange, bread, bubblegum, peppery. Very very little bitterness. Mouthfeel- bubbly and tingly. Overall- digging this one. Very tasty, plenty more than just one layer to this.

This beer pours a very hazy and almost completely opaque pale yellow color with a huge, dense bright white head. Retention is below average and there is next to no lacing left on the glass.

Smell is absolutely amazing. Banana bread, clove, wheat and some other spices burst out of the glass, fly up your nostrils and assault your senses.

Taste is the same. Very bright and flavorful.

Feel is a little thin for the style and also a touch under carbonated.

Overall this is the best tasting and smelling Hefe I have ever had. Unfortunately I had to ding it a little for appearance and feel, so I would take Weihenstephaner as a touch better overall, but it is close. Clearly good company to be in.
