L - Slightly hazy straw colored with a medium meringue head
S - I get banana bread, clove, and a little bit of smokiness
T - Up front there is a burst of banana then a nice grainy wheat flavor. It finishes with a light lemon sweetness
F - Really nice mouth feel. It's got some thickness to it.
O - Great take on a hefe. Probably the best I've ever had.

Not a big Hefe drinker here so excuse the average review.

Pours a hazy straw color with less than a finger head that disappears within 10 seconds. No lacing and a good amount of bubbles rise to the top.

Smell is mostly of banana to me. Some wheat is in there also I suppose. Typical Hefe smell but it does have a certain sharp aroma to it.

Taste is very nice. Crisp banana and breaded malt along with a lovely vanilla-wheat backbone. I can even taste a hint of hops and some citrus in there also. A hint of spice is detectable. Excellent.

Feel is just what I want in a Hefe. Easy drinking with a very light body and a nice amount of carbonation. Incredibly refreshing.

Overall this is a classic example of a well done Hefeweizen. It really reminds me of the Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen which is an enormous complement in my book. Well done Live Oak!

A real nice cloudy yellow body, lots of lacing. A hit of grain and esters in the nose, banana and bubble gum in front, a bit of funk in back. The taste goes with the fruit, but dries out some, leaving a very nice example of the style, one of the best I've had from a U.S. brewer.

Thanks, Jay!

Was lucky enough to receive this as part of a 10-beer package sent by Jay. Had heard great things about this one. Really looking forward to trying a good Hefe.

Poured a light yellow semi-hazy color with one finger of fizzy gray head, which thinned out immediately. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Decent lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled a nice whiff of Hefeweizen notes, including banana bread, dried banana chips, cloves, Circus Peanuts candy, Juicy Fruit, lemon zest and hints of coriander. Very juicy on the nose for a Hefe. (Smell - 4.50)

Taste followed the nose, although not quite as good overall. Got banana bread, sugary Circus Peanuts candy, honey, Juicy Fruit, lemon zest, coriander, hints of tangerine, peppery spices that I really didn’t get in the nose, pears and a touch of green apple. (Taste - 4.25)

Light body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.50)

Wow, very good. Probably my second-favorite Hefeweizen, only trailing Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier. (Overall - 4.50)

This does nothing for me. Aroma smells like smoke, is it smoked malts? I have had much better beers in this style. Not sure how this is in the Top 250.

Appearance- The beer was a bright golden straw color with a white head.

Smell - The banana shines with a bright spiciness.

Taste - Banana comes to the front. There is a pleasant spiciness with hints of clove and a hint of cinnamon. There is a presence of dried green apples a yeasty backbone.

Mouthfeel - The yeast adheres the taste to the roof of the mouth.

Overall - A spot-on interpretation of the style.

Very pale, clear yellow color with close to three fingers of airy white head that are quick to dissipate into almost nothingness. Big banana aroma. Quite clean and crisp smelling. Mildly soapy, but in a good way. Top notch. Light hefeweizen banana flavors in the taste, again with some soapy notes, a little bubblegum, clove, white pepper. Light bodied with some slight creaminess to it. A great brew. Would love this on a hot summer night.

12oz can, served in an hefeweizen glass.

Pours a slightly hazy golden-darker yellow body, two finger white head, good retention, medium collar, not much lacing. Smells of bubble gum, clove, banana esters, wheat, light caramel, grainy sweetness. Smells like a sharp hefeweizen, not as well rounded as some of its best German counterparts, but it's unmistakably an hefe. Flavour is fairly authentic hefeweizen; dominant banana esters, clove, touch of bubble gum, grainy wheat, light grassy bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth and almost a tad bit creamy, good carbonation, super easy to drink. Overall, a very good hefeweizen; it's sort of like a more balanced version of most American hefeweizens which tend to be hopped up. This is balanced and seems to taste more authentic although I am not doing this blind with Weihenstephaner or Franziskaner, of course. That may be an experiment to do later on.

I must thank a very kind stranger for the hook up. Had a sample already so this will be the icing on the cake. A truly long wait to finally review this staple.

A- The can pours a mostly clear pale golden brew into my glass. Rising atop that is a thick, frothy cap that is also somewhat foamy in consistency. This cap peaks at over an inch high with great retention. Spotty lacing.

S- The classic hefe aroma profile. Banana esters blast out of the glass complimented very well by freshly fermented, wheaty yeast bread, lemon and mild orange citrus zest, clove, a touch of pink peppercorns, hints of vanilla sweets and general pale fruits.

T- As with the aroma, the yeast is the main driving force with malts and hops serving as simply a balancing act, although an important one. Banana esters, clove, vanilla sweets, lemon zest and a even a hint of tangerine lead into a base of pale wheaty grains, bodacious yeast breads, pils malts and a hint of mineral water. Minimal hints of Noble hops.

MF- Creamy and even chewy texture to a light-medium overall body. Honestly about as smooth as beer can be as it feels like a pillow of foam on the palate. Ends with a light spicy bitterness.

This is a beer that would always be amazing to have in the fridge. The esters, phenolics and yeast bread tones really form a fantastic base brew and not much else is needed. The body is the icing on the cake.

At Bangers. Probably pne of the best Hefes I’ve had. I haven’t gone to the motherland yet but I’d imagine this is what they are like. Pours a hazy pale yellow. Big banana aroma. Taste is similar to a banana runt with a big effervescent carbonation. Super refreshing.

The clove and yeast aroma is standard, but this beer blossoms on your tongue. I'm immediately struck by the balance, starting with toasted and doughy malts and finishing with sweeter banana, vanilla, and more clove. Believe the hype. This sucker has depth.

Recommended by specs employee in Katy. Poured into pint glass. Two finger head disappeared quite quick. Cloudy and well carbonated. Looks like something good to chew on. Nose of yeast and spice. Initial taste, ahhhh, this is really good. Definite witbier flavor with spice. Excellent and refreshing.

Maybe the best American hefeweizen, great clove, banana, bubble gum flavors on the aroma and the taste. Wonderful mouth feel and a real refreshing finish that is perfect for a Texas Summer.

Had on tap at the brewery. Cloudy straw colored with a fluffy white head. A small amount of lace. The smell is mostly bread, black pepper, vanilla, and cut grass. The taste is all of that, plus a creamy flavor that might just be due to the mouthfeel. Velvety and smooth. This is a perfect example of the style, and definite deserves the high ratings it recieves.

A nice hazy, gold beer with a white head that fades quickly and leaves no lacing. The smell is sweet with banana bread and cloves. The taste is sweet with bananas, cloves, bright citrus and straw. This is a really damn good Hefe.

Not my favorite style, but perhaps the best American example of the style. Pours a hazy gold with a soft foamy head. Smell is bright clove and banana esters, with some grass and hay. Taste is mild, grassy and citrusy. Feel is smooth as silk. Couldn't ask for a better American Hefe.

Not my fave style but I can accept this is a great representation of the style. Smooth and hazy and wheat is very evident. Probably the best hefe I've had though 3.75 probably where
I top out for the style.

Very good HefeWeizen!! I am not a fan of this style of beer whatsoever, but this one is certainly drinkable. I would definitely try it again - perfect for long walks on the beach with that special someone according to @Mpontiakos

View: hazy, bright yellow
Smell: Some strange smell to it, a lot of maltiness
Taste: still that strange taste is there, and still a lot of maltiness too. Little hoppiness. Some citrus taste.

A nice hefe, but I still can't make out what that strange taste is and how I feel about it.

I really like the look of these cans, and the beer inside is good as well. This hefeweizen is very smooth and worth a try. Is has some definite Brady smells and flavors but they are not lingering.

Great - no, outstanding - Hefeweizen! This is my favorite beer style and this is easily in the top five of my list for this style. Golden, cloudy color. Smells of citrus, tastes of citrus and wheat - perfect balance of the two. Aftertaste is smooth and refreshing. Great local brewery with a world class beer.

32 fl oz howler sealed with pressured growler cap.

poured into wheat beer glass.

Appearance: Light straw yellow body with thick bone white head.

Smell: Biscuit / bread malts. Light hint of banana and clove. Lager yeast.

Taste: Flavorful, balanced, and complex. Bready and biscuit malt. Lager yeast forward. Banana, clove, and bubblegum. Light hint of earthy hops.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. The drinkablility is off the charts. Creamy carbonation and a light snappy finish. Very refreshing.

Overall: Hefeweizen is a beer style that I have only found New Glarus to brew well and I really haven't found many Hefeweizen's that are truly spectacular. This beer has really high scores and I honestly did not think that it would be as good as the ratings say it is. Well, I am here to say that this is the best Hefeweizen that is brewed in the USA. This exceeded expectations and has me wanting to get another growler of this Live Oak beer. The fact that the banana and clove are extremely well balanced and completely dialed in are what makes the beer shine. I have always homered on New Glarus Hefeweizen's and this beer is clearly far superior to all of the New Glarus Hefeweizens.

Banana, vanilla, biscuit, lemon on the nose. Taste brings sweet melon and some citrus. full mouth feel on the front of the palate, but it's a little watery on the finish. Not bad overall.

On draft at Banger's in Austin on 6/9/2016

L-bright yellow, small thin head
S-wheat, banana, cloves
T-zesty lemon, wheat, bready banana
F-drinkable but heavier
O-i don't love this style but since it's so well done for it's style, I upped the ratings to be more relative. Best in class for sure and I would enjoy this again if available, but i just don't can't get to love this style
