On draft at Banger's in Austin on 6/9/2016

L-bright yellow, small thin head
S-wheat, banana, cloves
T-zesty lemon, wheat, bready banana
F-drinkable but heavier
O-i don't love this style but since it's so well done for it's style, I upped the ratings to be more relative. Best in class for sure and I would enjoy this again if available, but i just don't can't get to love this style

Can poured into a tulip. Huge banana on the nose with taste following suit. Creamy mouthfeel not experienced in several other hefeweizens I have tried to date but, overall, this was not a standout IMO.

Pours extremely cloudy gold with a big white rocky white head that dies quick. Smells of big clove, orange peel and banana bread. Taste is ripe banana, a little clove, minor metallic character and minor spice. Refreshing in the mouth and very drinkable. A great hefe for sure.

Enjoyed this HefeWeizen in downtown Austin....straight from the tap into a pint glass.

A - Beautiful; opaque; yellow/white fluffy look; limited head off the pour but nice, white, lacy clouds on the edge of the glass throughout. A gorgeous looking beer....

S - Banana, citrus, wheat, pleasurable smell.

T - Just like it smells; banana, wheat, oak, citrus. A very nice taste...

M - Slightly carbonated but still very smooth on the palate; a little bit of a bite that fades quickly.

Overall - Really enjoyed this beer; a nice, smooth hefe; would definitely have this one again.

Was wondering when I was going to try this highly regarded hefeweizen...and then I found out Mauerhan was so graciously going to share a growler he had just received in a trade. Thanks man!

A: Murky yellow with hints of orange. White fluffy head was immediately evident, but subsided after a minute or two.

S: Subtle banana and clove/spice-like aromas accompanied by wheat malts.

T: The first thing I noticed was the sweet malt character in the beginning and middle of this beer, then the banana and light fruit character thereafter.

M: Nice light body on it with mild carbonation, which was perfect for this style of ale.

D: I found the more I drank this, the more I liked this brew. All the flavors gelled well together, and the 4.10% ABV makes this tremendously drinkable.

Overall: A very good beer and a great hefeweizen. Not sure I would seek out, but would definitely jump at the chance of trying this beer at a bar or buddy's house again. A try it beer. Cheers!

d-is it excellent? of course. all around. i have to give it up to the texans on this one. it is the 3rd mbr of my wheat trinity along with NG Dancing Man and Avenitus. Delic.

I drank this beer during a tour of the brewery. We had free choice of all the beers that they brewed. After a taste of the others, I could not get enough of this beer. The beer was a perfect cloudy golden with a great head. We were told this beer was too green, but my oh my. The head unlocked a bouquet of fruity aroma. The bananas. The cloves. Almost too much to take in at one time. The taste was a match for the aroma. It was bold. It was in your face. It was just what I had come to love about German hefes. The mouthfeel was full and creamy and the bubbles played with my tongue. This is probably the best beer I have had since coming back from Germany in May 2002.

A - golden cloud haze, active carbonation 1 finger of fluffy head that receded pretty quickly leaving a thin ring around the edges...it's the color that stands out the most so far brilliant unfiltered awesomeness. This beer can be brought to optimal life with a good swirl. Doesn't have much lacing

A - helpful earthy spices, light floral notes and yes of course the amazing banana notes, it's smells amazing but is very subtle in a appropriate way that doesn't try to overpower to create a false and unnatural presence.

T - light touches of the similar earthy spices, hints of honey and vanilla then moving into a big wheat presence in the middle with a solid yeasty taste and then the banana bread is what I'm getting, a bit more sweet then expected but very refreshing. Ridiculously smooth

M - absolute epitome of creamy, full bodied and a smoothness that a lot of other hefs attempt. The carbonation is low and not prickly
on the palate. Very easy to put these away.

O - amazing hefe and always a must when the opportunity presents itself. From the appearance to the mouthfeel and in between this beer is simply awesome and should be consumed by all.

Banana, vanilla, biscuit, lemon on the nose. Taste brings sweet melon and some citrus. full mouth feel on the front of the palate, but it's a little watery on the finish. Not bad overall.

Maybe the best American hefeweizen, great clove, banana, bubble gum flavors on the aroma and the taste. Wonderful mouth feel and a real refreshing finish that is perfect for a Texas Summer.

Cloudy golden-yellow body with a creamy alabaster head. Leaves nice, thin, long sheets of lace as the beer is imbibed. The nose is all bubble tape original bubble gum, cloves and banana. The taste shows bubble gum, wheat malt, coriander, banana and freshly juiced pear. The real highlight of this beer is the mouthfeel. It's what makes this example unique. Without a doubt this hefe' has the thickest, heaviest, creamiest, most luxurious feel I've ever experienced for the style. This mouthfeel belongs on an Imperial Stout! Extremely tasty and drinkable, a treat and unique experience. I am lucky to have this available on tap nearby and will have this one frequently from this point on.

Served on-tap into standard pint glass.

Pours a hazy bright straw color. Maybe a quarter inch white head, average retention. Decent lacing.

Aroma has all the things you would expect. Cloves were most evident, with some wheat & banana notes, and even a touch of bubble gum.

Flavor was right on the money as well. Bready wheat, with some mild citrus notes mixed in. Bubble gum flavors start sneaking in towards the middle. Finish is clean, and refreshing.

Medium body, moderate carbonation. Near perfect balance, and maybe the best overall delivery of ALL the hefe flavors that I've had. Sometimes you don't get much of this or that, or maybe none at all....but this has a nice dose of everything you expect in a good hefe. Refreshing, great drinkability...easily session material.

Thanks to Dajtai007 for the growler, highly appreciated!

A: Pours a hazy yellow/golden with more of a dirty orange near the top of the beer, topped by a fluffy white head measuring between a finger and a finger and a half. The head dissipates somewhat quickly, leaving lacing over the top of the beer.

S: Not sure how a hefe can smell much better than this. Rich, ripe bananas followed by moderately strong cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Yeastiness provides a solid backdrop along with wheat, while green apples and lemon zest swirl around in the background.

T: Starts out with a blend of wheat and sweet bananas, but the wheat moves into the background as the banana strengthens and cloves come in strong. The spice notes are less defined than in the nose, with cinnamon and nutmeg not being as perceptible. Yeasty esters come in near the backend with green apple and lemon zest. Bananas come back for a long, slightly sweet finish.

M: A bit past medium bodied with moderate carbonation, feels a bit heavy and slightly syrupy on the tongue. Hard to knock it too much since this is a growler, and the carbonation will be a bit different from what the brewer intended.

D: Absolutely perfect beer for a warm Friday afternoon, goes down easy and at 4.1% ABV, I won't be feeling it too much.

One of my all time fav's and I never got to set up a review til now. Pours a nice yellow straw color, cloudy the way a Hefe should be. Aroma is a nice Banana and citrus, some say hints of cloves but I usually don't pick much of that up. Taste is flavorful, thirst quenching and echoes the aroma. Mouthfeel is thin but fits the style quite comfortably. Perfect for enjoying on a hot texas day!

I have had this delicious brew many times around town and take for granted that we have a world class hefeweizen here in Austin. The beer poured an opaque golden yellow with an enormous fluffy white head. The aroma was of bananas, cloves and a fruity spice that hit the perfect hefe tones. The taste was classic Hefe with bold bubblegum, banana, clove and spices that floated on a thick and creamy body with zero bitterness. The Live Oak Hefe is so thick, creamy and smooth its like drinking a beer milkshake. The note perfect hefeweizen flavors were bold and dominate while maintaining a very refreshing and drinkable brew. I can easily drink pint after pint of this on a hot day in Texas. It easily stands up to and exceeds its German counterparts and I would take it over just about any classic German Hefe.

Trade via Chadspivey - arrived slightly leaking but the product turned out just fine!

Poured into my Weihenstephaner Hefe Glass whilst camping on Memorial Day Weekend. A nice pour yields a huge head, just as a Hefe should be. The head recedes slowly down the glass as I eagerly await a sip. Aromas are nicely full of wheat and banana with a touch of the clove.

Tate moves right along with the nose but not so much banana and it gets a slightly tart and citric burst in there mingling with everything else. This is sheer heaven.

Very well done and went very well with a warm summer day. I could drink this all the time if it were available.

A: cloudy orange color with lots of haze and almost no head

S: orange, caramel, wheat, yeast, pepper, banana, clove, and so much more, all on the first couple smells. Excellent.

T: bubble gum, wheat, orange on first taste. Yeast, clove, lemon zest and banana are more subtle, but definitely there.

M: relatively thick. Moderate carbonation. Very good body.

D: excellent flavors and low abv make this ultimately drinkable.

Poured a nice golden yellow from the can. Nice banana and clove nose. The beer itself is slightly sweet with a bit of banana peel bitterness and is light and crisp. Good stuff.

Pours a cloudy lemon yellow. A huge frothy lovely head billows up and falls over the course of several minutes. No lace, though there's a bit more when poured from the tap.
Aroma is light and refreshing. Banana, clove, sweetness, a little bready.
Taste is classic hefe, lightly sweet and refreshing. Banana ripeness. A little brilliant tart in the middle with some bready/yeasty near the end.
Medium body, incredibly smooth, and a slight lingering sweetness in the finish.

This is a great beer. Not a favored style by me at all, but even I can taste the quality and craftmanship of this hefe.

Tnx to gtreid for sharing this with me at the CCB Hunahpu release!

Poured into a snifter.

A- A murky gold color. Very little head with no lacing.

S- Banannas and wheat. Maybe some pears and honey thrown in the mix.

T- A little of everything that I got from the nose, with the bananna being the most prevelant.

M- very thin with a good level of carbonation.

D- I could drink it all night/day long. Very easy drinking beer FO SHO!

Pours a bright golden, hazy color with a thick, bright white head.

Spicy vanilla, clove and bananna aroma's.

Tastes of spice, vanilla, bananna and grain.

Mouthfeel is grainy, spicy and slightly crisp.

Very drinkable beer. Not one of my favorite styles but this one had a little something extra. I think the aroma and taste were a bit more complex than a lot of American Heff's that I've tried.

Had this many, many times... figured that I should review it. Had this in a shaker pint during trivia at the Austin Flying Saucer. This was one of the better appearances the beer has had for me, IMO.

The beer is always a cloudy, hazy gold. The cap is a fluffy, pale white. However, the head died down quickly and needed to be roused to stay alive. Dirty Saucer glasses or not a great head? Probably some of both.

The nose is banananananana. It's not artificial or overpowering, but it's definitely dominant and long lasting. There might be some balancing spice in there or something, but let's just focus on the fantastic banana.

The taste is well balanced and complex. The mouthfeel is shockingly thick and creamy... but it still goes down quickly. The taste is somewhat banana, but it slowly melds into a sweet vanilla touch that wonderfully lingers. Dry and sweet at the same time. Viscous, but dry and drinkable. This beer is balance and a wonderful session in my glass. I'm never sad that I've ordered one of these... and I order it quite a bit. The Pride of Austin!

On my first review of this beer, I had it on tap at a local pub that didn't serve it at the correct temperature. Besides reviewing this beer at the correct temperature, I also want to take this opportunity to emphasize how important I learned tonight it is to serve a beer at the correct temperature.
Just like many people drink beers too cold, which of course masks the flavors of a truly good brew, drinking a beer such as a hefeweizen that is supposed to be a good refreshing wheat beer too warm isnot good either.

A: Very cloudy and a nice amount of body can be seen simply by glancing at this brew. Very impressed with the head retention as well.

S: A nice refreshing blend of bananna and wheat flavors along with a touch of vanilla.

T: Much like the smell, an awesome blend of all the flavors mentioned above. It starts off with a crisp, almost lager like crisp wheat flavor that quickly starts to blend with a nice bannana flavor and a touch of sweet vanilla that rounds things out and leaves just a little after taste.

M: From what I remember, this hefeweizen has the most body of any I have ever drank. This actually could take away a little bit from being a thirst quencher, but I think it's an awesome wheat beer as I love the substantial body this brew has.

D: Highly drinkable wheat beer. Best way to describe this brew is a freshly brewed Bavarian wheat beer with a little more body brewed and served fresh here in Austin, Texas. Just a reminder, make sure you tell the bartender you don't want a lemmon in your beer.

Happy to try this beer, long time want as the best American Hefe. Beautiful beer, great head as would be expected in a great Hefe. Nice aroma of banana, citrus and melon. Great job with this beer, would like a little more pepper or depth of flavor but overall its a good Hefe, maybe the best I've had.
