On tap at the brewery. Golden color with some white head. Floral smell. Light feel with plenty of carbonation. Banana and yeast flavors. A great weissbier, but I don't detect much smoke flavor.

On-draught @ Live Oak:

About as fine a rauchweiss as I've found anywhere outside Bamberg, with a subtle smokiness that allows it to remain refreshing whilst adding complexity.

Faultless, balanced, and damn drinkable. More understated yet impressive work from Austin's best brewery. A beer this close to German tradition is tough to find stateside amongst the few American breweries faithfully attempting them, and last I checked New Glarus isn't brewing smoked beers. Bravo, Live Oak.

my friends all thought i was crazy ordering a smoked beer on such a hot day when we visited live oak, but im so glad i did, i would hate to have missed something this compelling. its basically built like a hefeweizen, same yeast for sure i would think, but introduces a little bit of a european type smoked malt to the mix and give it some depth, the result is brilliant! the smoke isnt too much, and i think thats a real key to its drinkability, its a nice earthy balance against the slightly sweet wheat malt and the fruity banana complexion of the yeast, it even seems to add a little finishing bitterness to it, which i think help it stay balanced. body is light so even a little smoke goes a long way and carries on awhile. dry toasted bread, clove esters from the yeast, and gushing carbonation all keep it interesting and engaging, and i did not at all find this fatiguing or too heavy for a hot and humid texas summer day. these guys are absolutely killing it, we had a great time here, and this was the beer highlight for me! more breweries should do this sort of thing...

Got it at Banger's, Austin
Look: bright hazy yellow of a hefe, not exactly how I thought a Rauch bier would look like
Smell: A lot of smoked bacon smell, some fattiness.
Taste: Smoked taste came out a lot, strangely mixing with some fruitiness; still, the smoke taste is dominant. A little taste of hop at the end, but not too much.

A good beer, but not exactly a rauchbier in its sense.
