Smoky basement with no ventilation. Great taps and jukebox but you'll have emphysema after 2 pints.

I upgraded the "vibe" score because the music was mercifully country-free.

It's a neat little, low ceilinged place on the edge of the tourist district. Don't bring anyone sensitive to smoke, but it's an excellent escape from the country kitsch up the street.

I have to admit that I was disappointed by the Beer Sellar. It's got a great look and feel to it, but the smoke from so many cigarettes hung like a cloud and ruined my tastebuds.

I was also excited for 50 beers on tap, but in the end they're not really that exciting. There are 11 local taps but they're pretty much beers that you can get anywhere else (only the Calf Killer and Depot Street beers were unusual). Beyond that almost 10% was made up of BMC Light and Yuengling. There are 6 imports with the standouts being Chimay Cinq Cents and Lindemans Framboise, and Stella, Boddingtons, Newcastle Brown and Young's Double Chocolate rounding it out. But that's not the worst. What I found excruciating was that of the remaining 29 taps from across the country, they were all pretty basic as well (Goose Island Honkers, Abita Purple Haze, New Belgium Fat Tire, Magic Hat #9, etc.).

I didn't try any food because of all of the cigarette smoke despite the fact that I'd actually intended to eat there as they've got hot beef sandwiches. What I saw looked good, and I thought the prices were quite reasonable.

In the end I think it could be a great place, but the smoke ruined it for me and the tap selection wasn't everything it could have been. The relaxed feel and the interesting interior coupled with the food and prices would otherwise make it a great place to hang out for a while.

This place has a lot of taps, but you see a lot of familiar beers on tap too. Not an amazing tap list more of the usual suspects if you are from a good distro area you will not be impressed. Also if you don't smoke be prepared you can smoke in here which I miss about bars just seems like a place you should smoke even though I quit quite a while ago. The bartender knew what he had on tap though the only problem frosted shaker pints. I think even though they have a craft list there business thrives on coors and bud. Awesome jukebox great pool tables just a nice place good bar to hit with a bunch of friends.

I only stopped in to this place to get a break from the cold and the crowd on New Years Eve. At the time, you could still smoke and it was a hellish landscape of cigarette smoke. The selection was fine, but I'd never really see myself going back here.

Back in college, this was my go-to bar with friends when we were in the 2nd and Lower Broad area (where all the tourists go). Great place to go for some good beer and actually be able to talk with people or play some pool. Watched a few Preds games and enjoy far too many happy hours here. They have great specials that change every so often (we went to a number of "Pint Nights" over the summer where you could get a rare beer and a logo'd pint glass for $4).

Food is bar food. But for bar food, it's fantastic. Admittedly I was always a few beers in whenever I ate, but I was never disappointed. Don't go here for the food, but if you stay long enough it's pretty good, especially compared to the surrounding alternatives that range from $$$$ fancy to $$$ shit (okay, SATCO a few blocks away is solid).

Beer selection changes frequently but always pretty good. Lots of bottles and 20ish taps. You can find a lot of local beer as well as some more foreign (state and country) stuff. Cheap prices on pitchers. Have fond memories of sharing some pitchers of Sam Adam's Imperial Russian Stout here for around $10 a pitcher.

Staff is great. Never had a bad experience. When it's slow they love to talk beer and I've been allowed to sample stuff as well as getting a freebie here and there.

This is a somewhat divey bar with smoking, pool, and southern accents. If you want classy, go to Flying Saucer and pay a little more. But even as a person who hates smoking, sucks at pool, and thanks God every day I managed to grow up in the South without an accent, I do love this bar and look forward to going back me next time I'm in Music City.

While being in town for the East Nashville Beer Festival, I checked out this place last weekend, the night of the festival. Sounding like a good place to get a few craft beers, attended.

Before walking in, just note, this place takes a while to walk to from the bridges or Broadway! Walking down the steps we were met by numerous pool tables and then a cloud of smoke?!?! Oh no! This can't be... Had to stay for a beer at least. This quality is VERY important in a beer bar/restaurant in order for myself to enjoy a good beer. The aroma gets destroyed.

Service was good. Came straight to the bar, was hooked up with a beer menu, ordered and closed my tab. Nothing tough about this transaction.

Their list was great! Offering over 100 beers easily, I went with a Chimay since I've never had this on-tap!?!? How wild.

A nice place to hang out with friends and enjoy beer but I warned you... Smoking is allowed here! Probably won't be coming back because of this reason.

I went to college in Nashville and also lived there for several years afterwards. My Beer Sellar experiences started in the late 90s and lasted five years or so.

It was always a favorite for me and my friends. They ran 2 for 1 specials on Thursdays.

The beer selection is among the best in Nashville, probably only losing out to one or two places that I can think of. There is more than enough to keep you entertained. The draught selection is formidable and they back it up with many bottles as well.

When I used to go, they started a loyalty program where they would check off a card for every draught and every bottle you drank. After filling your card with punches you get a T-Shirt and mug to commemorate your achievement.

We would not get food that much, but we were always pleased with any food we did get. There is a Hooters upstairs that is connected by elevator if you want to arrive in style.

It is a pretty good sized places. It can be hard to get a table or booth if you get there too late at night. There are some pool tables, darts, and sit down racing games that are active throughout the evening. They also have a great jukebox that will allow you to search for the songs you want if they are not already loaded onto the machine.

Overall it's a fantastic spot for a wide beer selection and a fun time. You can also get non beer alcohol too. They do not give you plastic glasses with car bombs or Jager bombs, always the mark of a good establishment.

I wasnt overly impressed with this place. It was definitely easy to find. So I walked in the basement of the building and this dive was what I was given. This place actually reminds me of a place I went to in Savannah, GA, without the nice atmosphere or great service.

One thing I did like about the place was the smell. For some reason, it smelled like pine needles and Christams trees in there. I really love that piney aroma. But the greatness basically ends there.

The selection was decent. There wasnt a whole lot of rare or special stuff. One thing about Nashville is they love Yazoo. That stuff is everywhere! Although Yazoo is ubiquitous here, it is always nice to see a place supporting the local brews. New Belgium, Sam Adams x5, and other basic craft beers.

The service was kind of pathetic. There was some dude working the bar and he was so into the opening day baseball game that I was bascially ignored for about 3 minutes. They had a TV with 6 games going simultaneously so apparently, baseball was more important that business. There were two locals in the bar and me and that was it.

I wouldnt go back. I think the Mojo has better everything with the Flying Saucer being best in selection.

When rating the atmosphere of the Beer Sellar, it's sort of difficult to do. Does a person want a "hole in the wall" feel?? If so, this is excellent for that. It's sort of dingy...heck, it's in a basement. It really doesn't look like a place that'd serve anything high end at all. I think that type of atmosphere is fine...some may dislike it.

The beer list is pretty good. 2nd best in town to Flying Saucer. Prices are resonable...I'd say they're cheaper than FS. Perhaps they're cheaper because of the run down locale, who knows.

This is a welcome change from the honkytonks lining 2nd Avenue. Worth a shot if you don't want all the loud music and tacky decor of the Flying Saucer.

And a cellar it is. Walking just off of the Broadway Strip a couple blocks, turning the corner and finding a true hole in the wall. The door takes me to a sunken dark cellar with a cool, damp, dark feel. On this partiularly hot Nashville day, this atmosphere was quite welcomed.

Past a few pool tables and bar tops, the bar lies just beyond. A well lit bar highlights about 50 taps, majorly craft beers. The New Belgium Eric's Ale and Yazoo IPA that I ordered hit the spot very well and seemed both to be as fresh as could be expected. Other beers that I considered were 3-5 offerings each of Yazoo, Sweetwater, Terrapin, and Lazy Magnolia.

The beers were delivered in the standars 16 oz. shakers. And while the bartender didn't seem to know any details about the beers, she was attentive and courteous (however there were only about five of us in the bar). I asked for a bit more detail on the Yazoo Seasonal and she had no information other than what read on the tap handle.

We did not order food, I'm not certain if they even offer dishes. Because the bar had a smokey aroma from nearby patrons smoking, this didn't seem to be the best atmosphere for true appreciation of food nor the finite aromas of the beers.

After a couple pints, the bar did their job and we are off to other great Nashville beer adventures. The Beer Sellar is definately worth a stop in for any Beer Advocate, as many local beers are well represented. I will likely only revisit if I am simply in the area and thirsty or if my company insists.

I was in Nashville for my brother's graduation, so did not find this place until my last night in the city.

I thought that the atmosphere was your traditional city/college bar feel with a long bar and some tables. They even had some foozball and dart.

The selection was pretty good, with some locals and west coast specials. I even managed to find NBB Fat Tire and Mothership on tap, which were fantastic, as well as some European's you do nto typically find on tap.

The servers were nice, friendly, and responsive. The food was average (but I am especially picky so do not read too much into it).

Nice little hang out in Nashville. Kinda cool place right off the street, dive bar feeling. Overall the quality and selection is not that great. They have a good number of beers, but mostly 'run of the mill.' They had some locals, Arrogant bastard, boulevard, schlafly, etc... Service was good, I sat at the bar and the bartender allowed me to taste a good handful of beers before I committed. She actually had a good idea about beers. I didn't have any food, but I believe they have sandwiches. Nice place to visit if you are near the 2nd and Broadway tourist locale.

This is a favorite stopping point for me in Nashville. Especially on Sundays. Sundays you get two for one. And literally whatever you order they get two glasses out and pour you two beers and hand you two beers. It's wonderful.

They have almost the best beer selection in Nashville. It's a great place to hang with your friends... very casual.

I haven't tried the food here yet so I can't attest to this part. However the jukebox is great... because whatever song they don't have you just download it and that way you really get to hear what you want.

I highly recommend the Beer Sellar. Especially on Sundays!!!

I found what may have been the best spot downtown Nashville. After a unsuccessful trip to Big River, I continued by search for a place to grab a few beers before returning to my resort. I saw the sign on my way into town, and walked by thinking it was a beer store. I took a stroll down Broadway, and on the way back to car, stopped in.

Best decision I ever made. As soon as I walked in I knew this was my kind of place. It had a very low-key atmosphere, perfect for after a 12 hr work day, and 2hr flight. You could tell this was where a lot of true locals hung out, everyone seemed to be having a good time and know each other. I took a seat at the bar, just in front of the epic wall of taps, spotted many great choices. Started off with a Arrogant bastard ale. The bartenders and manager were knowledgeable, welcoming, and attentive. I had a couple pints of local brews, Blackstone and Yazoo. It was great to relax, enjoy and talk beer after traveling. Dana the manager told me about another bar close by, Flying Saucer, that I will check out tonight. As a welcome added bonus, the X Rated Liqueur girls stopped by giving out shirts and stuff. I'm not big into liqueur, but it was pretty decent, and great when bombed with Woodchuck Pear.

Overall I had a great first night in Nashville, without spending a fortune. I will definitely be making a stop in Sunday night before I fly out Monday.

Each year, I make a few trips down to Nashville for various business interactions. On my first trip down, I hit some of the typical places one needs to hit the Nashville experience (just stop a "local" and ask them the top three places that you need to hit and you'll find some typical spots that don't really come up to par...more glitz than what most of us are looking for). Find a true local (not someone "looking to make it"), and chances are, this place will land in the top 5.

While the selection did not match what I've found in other places I've visited, it was a welcome change from establishments that offered beers in cowboy boots.

My friends and spent hours over beers and conversation...being well-attended to by the staff...but not overly bothered. If you're in the heart of Nashville, walk past the wild horse saloon and make your way to the beer sellar.

First stop of the evening to explore the night life of Nashville down by the river in the tourist district by Broadway. Street was lively, but the Beer Sellar seemed a little slow on a Friday night--but it was early though. Looked to be about 45 taps and a fair range of local beer incluing Yazoo, Blackstone BBC, Abita and Schlafly, but a lot of the usual suspects like New Castle, Dos Equis, Blue Moon, etc.

Bar is downstairs is a cool, cellar-like environment in an old buidling with rock walls and wood beams holding up the ceiling. Nice long inviting bar and the bartenders seemed to know their craft fairly well. Both of my beers were well served, fresh and clean. Got Abita Purple Haze on tap for the first time, and extended my Blackstone collection from earlier in the day at had a Maris Otter.

Seemed liked the place could become a meat market later on with kids a lot younger than myself, so I moved on. Good place to learn about beer and not a bad place to have a couple, though I learned the next day that Flying Saucer is probably more of the real beer geeks destination with a lot more beers and a much bigger range to tantalize someone who's drank it all.

I visited the Beer Sellar on a Thursday night aroun 10-11pm. I walk in to the place to hear free live music. I absoluutely loved that about the place. A guy and his guitar playing covers and some originals, nothing great, but the guy really could play well. I like the cellar bar feel, it can be a bit too open down there, but the basement bar lends some character I think. They also had foosball, pool, and darts available. I have to give it a plus for that,I love beer bars that focus just on the beer, but it was nice to see other things to do as well. For all the above the atmoshpere was great.

The service was ok. It was quick, but nothing exceptional. They poured the beer I ordered (yazoo pale ale) with no head.

Selection was good. The had about 40 beers on tap and about another 60-70 in bottles. A lot of local stuff, some things I couldnt get in Florida, and a lot of the common micros.

The price was exceptional ... I have never been to a beer bar that had great beer specials, however this bar offered two for one draft for any beer they had on tap, and they had some good ones.

I enjoyed my experience there, and would definitely recommend it.

Stopped in here after a late night of seeing some live music in Printer's Alley. The bar is in the basement of the building and looks like a college frat party is taking place in here. Plenty of young people drinking pitchers of cheap beers, playing pool, video games and darts. A few women were dressed to kill looking to score which was pretty funny to watch.

Beerwise there are a nice number of taps here, probably about 40 running during my stop. Only issue was there was only a handful of local beers, the usual big named micros like SNPA, and a bunch of macros and euro imports. The beer I ordered was old and I should have known with what the crowd was drinking here.

Service was basically taking my order and pouring as quick as possible to stay with the demand. Music was loud and annoying along with the few drunk patrons yelling out loud.

Don't bother making this a stop unless you need a local beer fix or want to be part of a late night frat party.

This place was a few blocks from my hotel so I figured I would give it a shot. The first thing that turned me off to this place was the stale cigarette stench as soon as you walk in. i am from NYC so I am used to no smoking and I have to say this was unpleasant. There was a big screen tv to the left playing some wrestiling show, some tables set up for poker night then some video games and pool tables in the back. The crowd didnt seem like your typical beer loving crowd, more the Coors light set.

They have a bout 50 beers on tap, a few locals but mostly big name brews. The menu does not lost the style, nor are the beers listed by proper country(La Fin Du Monde is Belgian?). Bottle list is the same, mostly well known lagers from around the world. They only had one IPA in the whole place. There were maybe two or three out of a long list that I would say were excellent beers. Bartender was nice enough but she really didnt know about the beers. It did end up being very cheap.

Other than stopping in to avoid the Nashville heat, why oh why would anyone bother to patronize this place? I mean, if you're looking to a.) cool off b.) find a typical sports bar or c.) choose from a limited selection of non-mainstream beers and from a beer menu that is never updated, this is the place.

It's located in a busy and upscale area of town that offers several other attractive looking brewpubs, bars and clubs. It is what the name implies...a cellar-come-sports bar which, while interesting given all the brick, is totally ruined by the typical AB type trash hanging from the walls and ceilings. You know...the inftated football helmets and AB lights and signs. Gosh, they have pool tables and video games ! What a unique approach!

And the beer menu. It's a laminated sheet listing several somewhat interesting options, so of course the three Chimay listings I requested were not available prompting the question that every other BA has asked, "why put it on the damn menu if you don't have it???" The bartender, an affable fellow, explained that AB was buying out the distributers in the area and controlling the availability of Belgian brews. He seemed apologetic yet his explanation sounded like one he has had to repeat many times before. The balance of the beer list contained several Miller, AB and Coors selections along with other micros that are easily accessible to my fellow BA's nation wide.

He suggested I try the local brew Yazoo. I tried the brown ale. It was supposed to be 6% abv, but god, talk about a lifeless brew.

The only other addition to the sorry atmosphere was the drunk soldier sitting at the bar and his buddy. The former loudly related raunchy stories of army life to the few of us at the bar, none of which were entertaining.

The whole sorry visit came to a somewhat appropriate ending when a rather hearty looking cockaroach galloped across the bar, and because the bartender was no where to be found to remove the little tyke, was squished by me with an ashtray (yes, they can still smoke in bars in TN).

Bottom line is avoid this place at all costs. There're plenty of better options nearby, the best being Flying Saucer on 10th Ave.

I had checked Beerfly before my trip, and knew this place was only half a mile from the hotel. Stopped for a couple pints in mid afternoon on a Wednesday. Obviously was very quiet. Waitress/bartender was friendly and helpful when I asked for something local.
Rates a 5 for selection for me - the largest and best tap selection I have ever seen. Great selection, fifty taps and about seventy five bottles, all listed on the menu. They had local beers from Yazoo and Blackstone, plus lots of micros I have only read about but never seen (especially on draft).
Food was average bar food, but was all paired with beer selections on the menu.
Looks like they had proper glasswear for most beers, but my pint was poured into a chilled glass. Prices were good (compared to what I am used to) and I caught happy hour as well.
Another place on my "must go back to" list.

Went to this place after Buffalo Billiards wouldn't let our buddy in because he had a scratched nose from a previous failed belly-flop in the hotel pool. 2nd and Church in downtown Nashville, if I remember correctly. The place actually is a cellar, which is kind of cool, but the atmosphere other than that is pretty lame. It's like your kick-ass hometown dive bar (the Stone Lion in Chattanooga, for me), but it's touristy, so there is no crowd of people who know each other. Golden Tee, a couple of poor-mediocre pool tables, and two electronic soft-tip dart boards (LAME!). Not a very cool spot to hang out. Atmosphere-wise, it's pretty much for sad bastards.

The service was good; the girl behind the bar was friendly, quick, and very knowledgeable about her beers (for having 50 taps on the wall, not bad). She was also forthcoming with samples of any beer I asked about. She actually offered me samples as soon as I asked a question about a beer; I didn't even have to ask for a sample. Basically, the service was quite good.

The selection was also good, with the 50 on tap including such lovelies as Arrogant Bastard and Lindeman's Framboise, the obligatory Sierra Pale and a couple of Sweetwater offerings, etc etc. More eclectic taps than you'd find most places, though, even places like Taco Mac that have a similar number of taps. Also had a good bottle selection, though I didn't peruse it very carefully, and stuck with some Dead Guy and Arrogant Bastard for this trip. I might go again next time I'm in Nashville; it was by far the best experience I've had on the Strip.

My brother in law tends bar at this spot so whenever my wife and i visit we spend a good deal of time here. Cool atmosphere as you walk into the basement of the building creating the double entendre of the Beer Sellar. Good juke box selection and many many beers. 50 taps to choose from but unfortunatley the atp selection is littered with BMC stuff, Bud light , miller lite etc. I can live with Bud on tap, business may require it, but Bud light?. It just seems a waste.Tennessee has some bizarre beer laws, so bars that dont have a standard beer licence cant sell bud, but the wine license(which is easier to get) allows them to sell high abv beers. As a result you see belgian stuff and high abv craft beers all over the city. I usually end up drinking unibroue products when im in Nashville , as a result of this law. Needless to say Nash ville is always a fun trip. The beer sellar is a good spot to hit if youre in nashville, right in the middle of downtown, you can walk around to some of the famous night spots, and really have a good time, not to mention the maudite.
