Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.75%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Drake's Drakonic Imperial Stout - 8.75% ABV, 40 IBUS
A big, malty beast of a beer that exemplifies the way we roll here at Drake's. Two-row malt is blended with Chocolate malt, roasted barley, and dark Crystal malts to make up the grist. Only one hop addition, Columbus, is added for bittering, allowing the abundance of malt in this beer to shine through. Enjoy the dense brownish head, the silky maltiness, and flavors of licorice, coffee and chocolate, rounded out with a slightly dry finish. here's to those who don't fear the mighty!

Review of an old 3-4 yr old beer in the cellar. This is a dark ass beer with a big time persistent dark tan head. Aroma is big time dark chocolate. Taste is also very chocolate forward that reminds me a bit of chocolate syrup and some plum notes that have come out with age. Mouthfeel is big with lots of body and high carbonation that works well. This is a simple yet delicious and smooth easy drinking big stout.

A: brilliant ebony under a 2-3” tan foam collar that hugs the glass producing lines of lace with each drink.
S: Big chocolate espresso nose.
T: Malt driven chocolate espresso palate, hop accent but not aggressive or dominating. Some alcohol in the finish – faintly winey, hard to define the fruit.
M: medium low carbonation, medium high body, very smooth and tasty. The very fine bubbles are almost like a nitro beer.
O: A big bold imperial stout.

Bottled 01/05/15 at 45 degrees into snifter
Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate
Head average (4 cm, aggressive pour), medium brown, creamy, diminishing to3 mm ring and irregular layer
Lacing poor – a few small islands which rapidly rejoins the ring
Body dark brown, opaque
Flavor of roasted malt, some bitter chocolate, overall slightly bitter; no hop flavors, no alcohol, no diacetyl

Appearance: Solid black with a sudsy light brown head with very minimal retention and decent lacing.

Nose: Pleasant chocolate. Bit of cola at the end.

Taste: Well balanced mouthfeel, cola, chocolate, and a tiny bit of licorice.

Notes: Not what I would consider Russian Imperial, but a good stout nonetheless.
