Flyway PilsFlyway Pils
Notes: Flyway Pils is a North German style pilsner, which are distinctive in their high hopping rates and clean, dry body. We combine extra premium pale German pilsner malt with the most American ingredient of all, flaked maize, which dries the body out nicely, and we hop it exclusively with a noble-style American hop called Vanguard. The beer displays a nice spiciness with a subtle fruited note, and finishes clean and dry.

Bottle poured into a Drake's Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden straw with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.

S: Dank, grassy, herbal, kinda skunky, citrus zest, a hint of spice, and grainy crackery malt.

T: Grassy, citrus, lemon and lime zest, dank herbal notes, floral, a little spice, grainy crackery malt, and a dry finish.

M: Light body, moderate carbonation.

O: The last time I tried this I didn't rate it because I thought it was off. Second time around, now I know that skunky element is there on purpose. Not my favorite, but it's slowly growing on me.

Pour: 19.2 oz can poured into a wine glass. Empty stomach.
Head: 1/2 inch head with even rocky bubbles that dissipate to a thin white rim within one minute. Head completely disappeared after 5 minutes with no lacing.
Color: Clear and pale.
Aroma: Starts with a mild aroma of banana, vanilla, caramel, hops and ginger. And a pleasant fruity fragrance of bananas and pine apples grows stronger as the beer gets warmer.
Taste: Bland, light and dry. Falls short of what the amazing aroma promises. No sweetness at all. Slightly sour like diluted lemon water. Metallic taste and bitterness of hops lingers at the end.
Carbonation: Medium to high.
Would drink again? No

Pale straw color, a bit hazy. Pours decent white head with good retention

Clean aroma with a light floral/spicy hop aroma.

Fairly big hop flavor and bitterness. Nice clean, somewhat bitter finish.

Medium body and med-high carbonation. Makes it crisp and refreshing.

A nice, clean hoppy Pilsner. Always happy to see well made American versions.

Bottled 05/15/18

Appearance - Pours mostly clear and straw yellow in color with a white, near finger width head. Fair retention before dissipating to a mostly barren surface with a thin ring of suds encircling the edge of the glass.

Smell - Fair grain aroma with grass and floral hoppiness.

Taste - Follows the nose. Mild earthy grain with lesser cereal sweetness. underlying red apple fruitiness. Solid amount of grassy hops in the finish, with a touch of spice.

Mouthfeel - Light-bodied with fair, tingly carbonation. Smooth, easy drinker with a crisp, mostly dry finish.

Overall - A good, solid Pils by Drake's brewing. I thought it was a little more crisp and refreshing when I drank it last night straight from the bottle, but its a nice drinker either way.

this tastes, looks and feel like a euro pilsner. crystal clear pale yellow color with a thin, white head. some crackery malt on the nose, plus old world hop notes of fruity orange marmalade and something herbal. body is light, carbonation medium to low, and the finish is in line with the reported 43 IBU. classic pils should have a more bracing bitterness than other lagered brews, and this one has it.

Oooh, very spicy and dry. It's a live one. Clean toast (prevalent in the aroma) jumps up briefly before the lemon and cracked pepper hops roll in. Balanced finish with a little doughy malt and the lingers citrus. This is a great take on the hoppy German pils.

Bottled 2/26/18, consumed 3/14/18

Poured crystal clear yellow gold.

Aroma is bread and grains, maybe just a tad earthy.

Taste is a step up from the aroma, clean primary bready/grainy flavor with some subtle floral and herbal hop notes.

Mouthfeel is light-medium, very nice and delicate on the tongue, easy bitterness.

Overall, I'm admittedly not much of a pilsner or even lager drinker, but I did enjoy this beer and would get it again.

I'm not a huge pilsner fan but this was really good. The taste is a bit biscuity but it has a decent amount of hops that turns this into something worth finding, trying, and liking. Definitely boating worthy due to the abv and drinkability.
