Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
As we approached our 1500th batch in San Leandro, the brewers decided to attempt something different. They set out to make a pale ale with a clean, stripped down malt bill and plenty of late addition hops that would give the beer huge flavors and aromas of bright citrusy American hops without overwhelming the balance with bitterness. The resulting beer packed the aromatic and flavorful hop punch of a West Coast-style IPA at a very easy drinking 5.5% ABV. The brewer and the people loved it. Now 1500 is a Drake’s flagship beer.

A: Lots of citrus, pine and light berry hop notes upfront, with a light malt sweetness.

A: Light orange color, totally clear, with a moderately thin white head that has adequate retention, light lacing in the glass.

T: Bright citrus, pine and light berry hop flavors, very crisp, with light malt support and a moderately-light hop bitterness.

M: Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Tasty; the beer is crisp and clean with a great citrusy hop aroma and flavor – sessionable and easy to drink.

From a 12 oz bottle dated 4/4/17. Pours orange with a finger of white head. Slightly sour citrus smell. Light feel. Taste has a malt foundation, some citrus and grassy hop flavor, and a bitter finish.

Pours cloudy with a thick head that remains, defined lacing. This is dry hopped with specific hops that come through strong for a pale ale, not too woodsy pine needle, but if that flavor is not to your liking then this beer will not be a favorite. Overall it easy drinking and delicious.

12/22/16, Pint draft, Drakes Brewery, 1500 Pale Ale (revisited), cannot recall initial impression, this time..fruity nose, first two tugs are pretty mellow...nothing jumps out, hop character is subtle but there, overall smooth and approachable pale, very good 3.9

One of my favorite APAs. Golden amber in color, mostly clear. White, bubbly head with moderate lacing. Aroma is malt, floral, and citrus. Flavor is light citrus, grass, and malt. Very well balanced, but hoppy for a pale ale. Crisp finish with a slight bitter aftertaste. An excellent beer overall.

33cl bottle. Hazy orange with a medium height white head and visible carbonation. Caramel, citrus hops and some tropical fruit. Refreshing and drinkable, could do with a bit more bitterness.
