I would give this a 5, but I haven't given Stone a 5 yet and that wouldn't be right. But damn close. Best beer I've had a Drake's and it is a place I frequent often.

my goodness this is delicious. probably the best double ipa i have had so far in 2016, i absolutely love it. so much going on, with a little pinch of rye malt with its spiciness to cut through some of the big oily hops. notes of white grapefruit and christmas tree in the nose, blue spruce even to be specific, and then tangerine and pine sap in the taste. its clean for how big it is, no leftover grain sugar here really, and not much sweetness for how oily the hops are in the middle of it. there is a slight hint of dextrose or confectioners sugar in the taste, but its long resolved by the finish. juicy and bright, this is super fresh. its also unique as they go, the pine forward nature of it, but its not super bitter like the northwestern varietals often can be. i am surprised i have never heard of this, it being so good an all. probably should have a little more hype around it. its also one of the prettier beers in the style ive seen in some time. dead sexy white spiderwebs all over it, rings too, droopy and lazy and mellow looking. clear golden in color, some viscosity. absolutely no trace of its alcohol strength either, which is real impressive in a beer like this. the rye is genius, and i wish i had this regularly available to me. huge thanks to drlovemd87 for the hookup. this is bomb!

Glowing orange and yellow, white head 1/2". Great bouquet of aromas here, citrus, tropical heavy. Medley all around.

Its a warm beer with a little sweetness, but the hop flavors dominate all the way. Solid bitterness but not excessive especially relative to the other flavors. Relatively light malt bill, tons of hops, they do it right for sure.

3-10-16 - On tap at The Mikkeller Bar in San Francisco. Beautiful people drinking top notch beers. This had the highest IBUs (100+) on the menu, so I had to get it! Oh so good and tasty for this double IPA. Served in a pint glass with foam residue that rimmed the inside walls of my pint glass. I would have had another, but Cap needed us at the Occidental for smokes. I'll seek out Drakes the next time I'm out west and can cross the bridge. This was just too good.

Pours three fingers of head on a clear straw body.
The aroma is a burst of pine with mango and pineapple, also a bit of bread in the background.
The taste is strong deep bitterness that goes throughout.
The texture is thicker.
It's a big DIPA.

Just tried this one for the first time and was blown away. Easily one of the most tasty, drinkable DIPA's I have ever had. Can't wait to try the triple which I also was fortunate enough to obtain

Shared a 750 ml bottle of this with my brother-in-law at a Mother's Day gathering. Served fairly cold into glassware.

Appearance - pale bronze beer is poured with good clarity, just a little haziness. A finger and change of a long lasting fluffy white head, some lacing steaks left behind as it recedes. Minimal visible carbonation.

Smell- a whole lot of citrus with grapefruit being the star, but I picked up lemon, mango and some pineapple too. A well rounded citrus monster, but the nose was not quite as extravagant as I had imagined it would be.

Taste - despite the huge number of IBUs, this only started bitter before turning much sweeter to highlight the tropical fruits of sweet pink grapefruit, oranges and pineapple. There's a heavy malt bill that's a little bit crackery and an equal part caramel than temper the bitterness.

Mouthfeel - super impressed as this was just super smooth, with juiciness spewing in all directions, but really easy to drink. Carbonation is present but executed in a way that it just adds to the smoothness.

Overall - Thanks again Tessa, this was a wonderful treat. A great IPA, with nearly unmatchable smoothness and a monster tropical hop flavor that is equal parts amazing yet refined. Delicious.

thanks to labrat for the trade, enjoyed this with tenderbranson69,poured chilled from the bomber into an IPA glass.
The color is golden with very light haze and amber highlights with visible carbonation and 3fingers of healthy cream with fine bead and wavy rings of lace that stick. The smell is strong citrus with orange and grapefruit blend of aromas and slight dank herbal quality with som mild spice almost peppery with almost no alcohol in the aroma but there is a light fruity yeast ester present with floral and subtle malt in the nose. The feel is very good with very juicy and tangy hop texture with medium high bitterness level and light astringency with malt texture adding sweetness with fully body and semi-dry finish.

The taste is very good with juicy tangy flavor as the nose hints at with more of a citrus/grapefruit focus and subtle herbal taste with slight sweet malt in the middle and a smidge of alcohol in the mostly dry finish -plenty of hops are lingering on the palate as the beer is smooth yet quaffable. I really liked this -very good Ipa would definitely recommend this and would try to find it again based on fullness of hop character in the taste.

Many thanks to whiskey for the bottle.

Appearance: Almost clear orange-amber. Head is dense, white, and bubbly. Drops to a small cap and collar in short order with decent retention. Sticky notches and sheets of lacing. Some splotches of foam remain for the duration.

Smell: Grapefruit zest, flesh, and juice. Solid push of pine needle, orange - in all aspects, and a slight woody element. Juicy citrus. A touch of alcohol runs through the back. Slightly caramelized and bready malts. Some wet pine needle. Tons of citrus and pine bitterness. Sweetness offers a compliment to the over the top hop profile.

Taste: Soft spice from the alcohol. Big and sweet with enough hop to balance. Oily pine needle and tons of citrus. Grapefruit rind dominates with a juicy push of flesh. Some orange as well. A touch of mint. Pine branch. Malts offer some caramelized sweetness. Some bready sweetness as well. A touch of pale malt. Ever so slightly tropical. Warming ups the sweetness a touch. Malts end up dominating the profile coming across with a slightly sticky and syrupy sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Sticky and slick. Medium leaning to full body with a moderate carbonation. Some astringency but not much.

Overall: Way better than Hot Pockets.

It's a true west coast DIPA. Sticky, sweet, and loaded with enough hops to kill a bear. I'll try it again as a share beer.

On tap at Eureka! Burger

A: Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a creamy off white head that settles and laces well.

S: Bright tropical fruit and citrus, a hint of herbal notes, and some caramel malt sweetness.

T: Tropical fruit, mango and passion fruit, citrus, orange and a little grapefruit, a little herbal dankness, caramel malt sweetness, and a touch of alcohol.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, with a little warmth.

O: Really good stuff.

From a 22 into a tulip. A golden amber (it was sitting next to my wife's Lagunitas IPA which was quite a bit darker, so...) with a white head. Super wet aroma with tropical and floral in the lead with a nice citrus following. The flavor was just a sweet blast of same said hop profiles, such that the sweetness seemed to be coming from the hops tropicals and not the malt. Brilliant. Nice citrus finish, and just a dash of alcohol blast at the back. If Top Tier DIPA's are truly world class, then this is a high ranking second tier brew.

9.3% ABV

Appearance - Pours an amber with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - citrus and citra hops, bready caramalts, tropical fruits (mango, passionfruit, guava), and grapefruit peel.

Taste - Nice bitter punch from the citrus and citra hops followed by the bready caramalts, tropical fruits (mango, passionfruit, guava), and grapefruit peel.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a pleasant stickiness and the hops linger in the finish also.

Overall - A DIPA with a pleasant citrus hop punch. Spot on on all fronts. A sweet find in West Hollywood.

Pretty good. Great smell. Nice citrusy and bready initial taste. It's like aroma coma but more boozy. For the price, go with aroma coma. The more it sits, the less the alcohol is noticeable.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Deep amber orange, hints to lemon yellow but a bit dull and slightly hazy but not too much. A decent glow with creeping slow crawling fine carbonation coming to the top. Thick fluffy to rocky head, swiss cheese retention, pill like scattered lacing, and holding big and beautiful at three solid fingers, maybe just a hair more. Very solid looking brew.

Excellent aroma. Hints of juiced pineapple, thin biscuit malt, and a spicy tropical hop note that comes off with an excellent fruit sweetness. Chewy and leaf like mint hit just with an interesting herbality as well, even a little bit of dank. Great smelling stuff here.

Palate just gives the aroma greatness, and gives up the goods. First sip is fistfull of lush tropical hop warmth. Hints of mango and pineapple rush with a mild sweetness, and an almost apricot juiced body. Fruity juiced big time, almost into honey territory but with a much pleasurable bitterness to go along with it. Dank quality really seems to come out but also pull a good malt character out of this to match nearly caramel but much lighter and getting into that sweet honey realm. Chewy and great aftertaste, like a soft mint and chewing gum hop quality.

Overall just a great double IPA.

Top notch double IPA. Super piney with floral characters. Started drinking cold with lots of pungent hops in nose and flavor. As it warms the flavor changes to a stickier, malty IPA. This beer stands out on many levels of taste and drinkability. Definitely worthy of trading.

A - Poured into a tulip glass. Poured a gorgeous 2 finger head, dissipates very nicely, head is soapy white. Body is beautifully clear, hues of gold in the light.

S - Lemon grass, bitter pine, herbal, fresh like mint, splashes of citrus acidity of a tarter fruit, gratpefruit forsure. BIscuit and malty at the end, finish with another fresh punch of pine.

T - This seems to activate every aspect of the palate, side of the tongue gets the sweetness, apple, mango, peach, tip of the tongue you get more of sour aspect like lemon, oranges, at the back you get that herbal bitterness. The back reminds me of chewing on a fresh picked herb. At the very end, you get a reminder of the taste with the breathe that comes back up. It's like dry tasting and a perfectly analogy is it feels like this IPA is giving me cpr.

F - Light to Medium Body. Sticky at times, crisp, dry, with breathes of the taste coming back up later.

O - Given their location, I thought this would be more west coast of an IPA. But this forsure is not east coast. This is a great balanced beer for both lovers of the style to enjoy. There's enough malt in here for malters to enjoy, but not a lot for WIPA lovers to find annoying. Moreover, there is just another citrus for WIPA to enjoy. I'm just amazed at how much of an experience this beer is.

Had this fresh and it was just crazy, over-the-top hoppy. Insanely intense aroma (grassy, citrusy, and a little dank) and tongue-coating grassy hops. I enjoyed it, but it's definitely right at the edge of reason. To go beyond this you might as well just chew on the plant itself and drink something else.

I'm a big fan of Drakes. I live not far from the brewery and I enjoy going there and trying there different beers. But this one just doesn't do it for me. A little too sweet for me.

22oz bottle poured into shaker pint. Hazy golden amber with a stubborn two-finger rocky cream-colored head. Mango, pine, orange, grapefruit, and caramel aroma. Bitter up front with orange peel, pine resin, and grapefruit pith. Mid palate sweetness with malty caramel and bread crust. Bitter on the swallow with a touch of aspirin and pine. Medium body, viscous texture that grows creamy as it warms, long bitter finish.

Resiny, minty, grassy nose with light fruit and citrus. Pours brilliant gold under a 1” lacy persistent foam cap. It has a rich, malty entrance with fruit followed by rich hop flavors finishing with a peach bittered by hops with traces of citrus. There is also some hoppy vegetal astringency in the finish which has a drying effect. This is a big beer with a very creamy body and very fine soft carbonation.

Pours a clear, beautiful golden-honey color with a finger of fluffy, bubbly white head, spotty lacing. Aromas of mango, guava, juicy grapefruit, some pine as well. Flavors follow with guava, pine, grapefruit and spicy rye notes, oranges, some caramel malts come through as well. Loving this hop monster! Outstanding!

Pours with a thick white head that retains it's shape. Light copper body.

Smell is piney resinous. Some tropical fruit notes.

Taste is very balanced. Not very bitter. Herbal and aromatic dankness meet with some citrus and tropical fruits. Malt blends well with the oily hops to create a thick but not viscous mouthfeel you want from a DIPA.
Overall it's a very good rendition of the the double IPA. For the price I don't know if I'd stray away from Enjoy By or even Hop Stoopid for that matter.
