Aroma Coma IPA delivers a citrus hop assault that lives up to its name. We start with just a few handfuls of rye and caramel malt, then we dry hop it twice with a massive amount of Citra hops for an incredible aromatic experience. Keep cold, drink fresh, and inhale aggressively.

Appearance: Aroma Coma pours out a brilliant, warm, clear, light copper color. I really can't overstate the attractiveness of the color of this. About 1" of pure white head forms, which has just okay, but very good lacing. A good, moderate amount of carbonation is present. Really the only thing keeping this appearance score from being perfect is the retention could be a bit better.

Smell: A bit of pale and caramel malt is apparent, but really the highlight is a combination of great floral and grassy notes. Resin notes are in the background but definitely there. Not quite as powerful as I was expecting based on the name. Seems nicely balanced, but I was not expecting a nose dominated by florals.

Taste: Good solid pale malt backbone followed by floral hops and a lot of citrus hop flavor. Way more citrus on the palate than on the nose, namely tropical fruit and bitter grapefruit rind. A bit resiny on the finish, and drying.

Mouthfeel/Overall: Mouthfeel is light-medium with an appropriate amount of carbonation. As I mentioned before, a bit drying. Quite refreshing and easy drinking. Definitely drinks easier than it's 6.7% mark. Overall, I really enjoyed this.... great hop complexity and freshness. Definitely a winner in my book.

Had poured from 12-oz. bottle, label stamped “BOTTLED ON 05/01/19,” into tulip pint.

This is a beautiful, sneaky beer. Amber-gold with a lasting creamy head, with a classic citrus and resin West Coast aroma, it starts smooth and balanced between mild citrus and light malt, before the hops and now 8.00 ABV heat up the finish—and you.

On tap at Drakes Barn, West Sac CA. Pours a clear copper/gold with white head leaving moderate lacing. Nose is big citrus and tropical fruit sweetness. Taste follows with a balanced bitterness . Mighty fine IPA.

Good distribution Drake’s, these guys consistently get their beer on the shelf in less than two weeks if you live in Oakland.

Bottled on 7/13/18, reviewed on 7/27/18.

L: beautiful copper brew, obviously filtered
S: citrusy hops galore, pineapple, orange, mango, very nice
T: big tropical hops, nicely balanced with carmel and malts. Just bitter and dry enough
F: Easy drinker, very refreshing
O: Solid DIPA, well done Drakes

Pours the most appealing cloudy copper with solid head .

Aroma is an enticing orange, tropical fruit, and spices.

Taste is an absolute blast of amazing citrus flavors that makes a lot of other IPA's seem muted.

Solid medium feel. Overall an outstanding DIPA. Definitely one of my favorites and will always pick a pack up when I see them around.
