22oz bottle from recent release poured into tulip glass.
A: Pours a clear golden color with a huge, dense, off-white head that took forever to fade into a thin but long lasting film. Chunky rocky lace was left down the side of the glass.
S: Dominating notes of tropical fruits and citrus hops fill my nose. I get sweet fruit nectar scents of tangerines, papaya, passion fruit, mango and maybe even a bit of kiwi. Very fresh and hoppy.
T: Hops are more herbal and floral than the nose, and definitely not as citrusy. Pale malts and a bit of sweet toasted caramel poke through the hops as well. Definitely not as bitter as I was expecting.
M: A surprisingly smooth mouthfeel comes through over a medium body and mellow carbonation. Hop bitterness is low, alcohol is hidden well.
O: A very uniquely flavored ipa despite my fairly straightforward review. Not my favorite hop profile but this beer is skillfully done, and done well.

Fresh (1 day old) bomber from the 2012 batch.

Appearance: Pale golden body with an inch of froth atop. Slightly hazy. Looks like IPA, strangely enough.

Smell: Big floral hop notes backed by tropical fruit and white grape. Has a lot of that signature dankness you'd expect from nelson and motueka. Nelson stands out but isn't dominant. Smells more gentle than Aroma Coma, and in some ways it's a bit nicer.

Taste & mouthfeel: Pleasantly soft and mellow compared to Coma, the NZ hops seem to contribute less bitterness. There's a ton of great hop flavor here, primarily floral with plenty of white grape, gooseberry and pineapple beneath. The body is light and crisp, while malt remains non-existent from start to finish. There's a pleasantly mellow hop bite to the finish that's uniquely floral.

Overall: The NZ hop bill transforms Coma into a completely different but equally enjoyable beer. Great stuff.

A - Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and other tropical fruits with some pine hop, and some caramel and biscuit malts.

T - Starts off with some grapefruit, pineapple, and other tropical fruits hop flavor with some bitterness and some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some pine hops and a bit of spicy hop flavor comes through with some biscuit malts. The finish is a mix of tropical and piney hops and bitterness with some sweet bready malts.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable. Nice hop profile with good bitterness. Very good overall balance.

I like the name. +1 for that. The brew was poured and out came an apricot colored ale with a bright white head. Nice fruity aroma. Pears and pineapple in the nose. Citrus taste with some grapefruit and orange and malt. Full bodied ale with a lingering aftertaste. Overall I was surprised by this local brew and impressed with the offering. Would like to see this bottled in the future.
