Pours dark brown with fast fading white head

This is an oak aged brown and you get a bit of the barrel but very little. Roasted grain and coffee tones in nose

Mouth feel is medium bodied and carb

Flavor is roasted grain, burnt coffee, charcoal and bitter chocolate

Finish is worst part like an ashtray; finish brings down taste and overall for me

Appearance is dark brown with slight red transparency around the edges. Two inch head on pour that dies down but remains around the edge of the glass with some light lacing.

On the nose there's caramel malt and dark fruit with hints of charred oak. Very nice.

Taste doesn't really follow the nose and is very roasty and smoky with some hints of the dark fruit and chocolate popping up at the beginning and end and as the beer warms. The finish is very bitter and not pleasant. Like burnt dark coffee.

Feel is lighter with medium carbonation. Just right for a brown ale.

Overall this is ok. The appearance and smell are very inviting but the taste is somewhat of a letdown and is overly smoky and roasty. It's described as an "oaked" brown ale, which sounds like it's been barrel aged but just from the taste alone you can tell it hasn't been. My guess is they just charred the oak and let it sit in during the brew process, leading to the amount of smokyness.

I found Lumber Lung (what a name) at the big Cork and Barrel (nice store) in Lawrence, KS while on a road trip to rock/pop/metal paradise. This brown is dark - cola dark, without much head to speak of. Too bad, would have been beautiful. I've never smelled beer like this before. Think of burned popcorn. The main flavor here is burnt lumber, slightly bitter at that. The char is pretty overbearing, but you can still pick up on some chocolate and malty goodness. It's a pretty med/heavy feel, but I'd like more fizz. Overall, I was glad to try these guys for the first time. Would pick something different next time.
