Purchased a single 12 oz. can at Hazel's in Boulder, CO. Release No. 1, Winter 2016. Poured into an Avery cognac glass. No bottling date.

Look: Black with a healthy medium-brown head. Surprisingly large head for this high of ABV.

Smell: Roasted malt, a hint of vanilla and bourbon. Slightly sweet. Nice smell overall.

Taste: Good example of the style: nice balance of roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, and a bit of hoppiness to balance it all out.

Feel: Thick and syrupy. Nice carbonation.

Overall: A really good example of a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. Very well-rounded and well-balanced.

Picked up a four-pack from Small Batch Liquors in Denver on 6-12-20 for $22.00. No canning date, assuming it was in 2020; consumed 8-25-20.

Beer poured black with an okay tan head that dissipated quickly.

Nose is vanilla forward with a touch of bourbon.

Taste follows the nose with a nice bourbon and vanilla accent over a huge malt base. Finishes well balanced as the adequate keeps the sweetness from becoming overwhelming.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and not overly smooth.

Overall a nice barrel offering from a smaller brewer, glad i tried!

Bold, brazen and aggressive on the char, Finkel & Garf aren't holding back when it comes to the roast of grain, spice and heavy whisky barrel treatment. It appears that they've been taking Norwegian brewing classes.

Jet Black and pouring with the visual density of used motor oil, their Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout hits the nose hard with a heavily roasted perfume softened only with suggestions of cream, chocolate and caramel. With a sharp prickle of the nose, the taste kicks off with a sweeter roast flavor with a backdrop of dry molasses, sorghum and cream to impersonate burnt marshmallow.

A heavy coffee flavor soon follows as the deviant ale extends onto the middle palate. Playing out spicy, ashy and earthy, its a spice of chicory, cinnamon and anise that amplify the coffee roast and its accompanying earthen spice. Trending bitter, sharp and aggressive with bourbon spice, the late taste is woodsy, oaken and rife with brushfire and straight whisky spice.

Full bodied and malty-dry on the finish, the Imperial Stout carries a harsh and campfire burn that's oddly irresistible. Its aggressive nature is expounded by oak spices, a roast-derived astringency and a whisky burn that nearly outlasts the enormously roasted aftertaste.

cinnamon vanilla edition, a real treat, and a beer way too good to have come from a brewery that nobody ever thinks twice about. its a shame, because this is special stuff. the bourbon barrel impact on the quality base stout is high, charred oak abounds, bringing out strong dark chocolate qualities, and the whiskey is there from first sniff to last sip, unimpeded, pungent, and delicious, but in the end, this edition of this beer is all about the adjuncts! some of the most aggressive cinnamon use i have seen in a beer, which in my head should be terrible, but it turns out to be incredible with the big boozy stout, i love it. not spicy in the raw sense, more warming and cozy, like hot chocolate with a little cinnamon on the top, very aromatic, also earthy and complimentary. vanilla makes this somewhat sweet, but its more flavor than sugar which i like, and ends up adding a great dimension without making this seem too desserty. lots of body, a little exposed alcohol, but doesnt seem as strong as it is, and so smooth and interesting going down, dusty dry cinnamon powder is left on the tongue, yum! just enough whiskey character here, nice with the additives. a beer of honestly shocking overall quality, just really really good stout, aggressively spiked with cinnamon, and entirely successful. do yourself a favor and go find a can, nothing like this around, and one of the better beers with cinnamon i have maybe ever had.

Viscous pour, black and heavy. Dark khaki and cocoa head. Heavy on the lace as the rich head slowly dies down. A thick film remains over the body. 5

Charred oak, bourbon spice, chocolate, vanilla, hints of licorice and roast. 4.25

Starts off with a lot of molasses and brown sugar, yeasty chocolate, spicy bourbon and faint, faint soy sauce. There's a nutty, coffee with milk finish that's closes things on an upswing. 4

Sugary sweet in the feel initially with a medium body that comes across like a syrup almost. Yeasty, oaken, spicy and a touch hot mid-palate. A sticky feel lingers in my mouth with gentle roast and sweetness. 4

For an unknown brewery, this is an impressive barrel-aged beer.

From a 12 oz can to a snifter. Release No. 5 (the one with cinnamon and vanilla).

A-An aggressive pour produces a short tan head. The foam fades quickly to a thin cap that hangs around for a while. No lacing. The beer beneath is black, opaque, and viscous looking.

S-Holy cinnamon! I sniff tons of the aforementioned spice, as well as some subtle caramel sweetness, a little bit of milky chocolate, and some vanilla. The aroma reminds me of a mall-store cinnamon roll shop...dough and all. I'm not pick ingup much from the beer or barrel; maybe a little prune?

T-The taste tracks the smell closely, i.e. lots of cinnamon that mostly overpowers everything else. Barrel flavor is very light, but I pick up some caramel sweetness. I also pick up a bit more chocolate than on the smell, as well as a stronger vanilla flavor that reminds me of Fluff, that marshmallow creme stuff. Alcohol is completely hidden.

M-The body is medium to medium-plus in heft with a lower levels of carbonation. The finish is slightly sticky.

O-This one is just too heavy on the cinnamon for me. I can't stop thinking about fast-food sweet rolls, which is not a flavor I am chasing in a beer. This beer may be best served over ice cream.

12oz can. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark oily black-brown body, one finger offwhite head, good retention, even rings of lacing. It's a dark and oily looking beer. Substantial. Smell is straight cocoa powder, splash of bourbon, oak, milk chocolate and cocoa nibs. Touch of espresso acidity as well. Flavour follows, with a nice decadent dark chocolate sweet and bitter combination, cocoa nibs, bourbon, touch of smoke, little bit of roast and char, light vanilla sweetness. A really well rounded combination of everything you'd look for in a big stout like this. Mouthfeel is fuller bodied, on the lighter end of that full spectrum, lower on carbonation as expected, smooth with a light smoky and sweet chocolate finish. Overall, a really nice surprise and this turns out to be a very nice bourbon barrel stout. It's comparable to Ozark's BDCS in a lot of ways; maybe this one is a little harsher. If you enjoyed that one, you'll enjoy this one.

L: Deep brown color, dark but not completely opaque. I got 1 finger of fine mocha bubbles.
S: Rich vanilla, dark fruits, chocolate, bourbon
T: Follows the nose, dark fruits, vanilla, tannins, chocolate, raisins, molasses, caramel
F: Feels medium bodied and slick, a little drying effect from the tannins, good carb
O: A very flavorful and drinkable BBA Imperial stout that is a little on the thinner side, but very enjoyable.

Pours black with a thin motor oil/creme head. Head fizzles up and back down quickly. A few strings of lace bubbles left. Bourbon, roasted malts, toffee, and a bit of caramel make up the aroma. The flavor profile is very similar with notes of bourbon, roasted malts, and toffee. Wonderfully dark. The bourbon is a little hot, but still very manageable. Mouth feel has a medium consistency and very smooth. Overall, it's a fabulous beer. The bourbon is tasty and still remains well in check. Love the can aesthetics too.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

Motor oil pour. Mocha head that quickly disappears. lacing around the glass that lingers
Bourbon, vanilla...wonderful aroma
rich, full flavor. Quality notes from the barrel, including a nice amount of heat from the alcohol on the back end. Bit sweet as well.
Body is a little thinner than what you would expect from a bourbon barrel aged beer with the smell and taste this one has but pleasant all the same.
At $15 for a 4 pack of bourbon barrel aged beer this one is a great value.
My first bourbon barrel aged beer from a can and it was delicious! Great job Finkel & Garf!

Dark pour, lovely head that dissipates soon after the pour. The nose is vanilla and bourbon, and continues to be big and rich. The taste is sweet and the barrel comes through at the end. You can get some heat from the barrel but it's nice. I really enjoy this, my only change is that I wish the mouthfeel was a bit thicker. This was my favorite beer that I was pouring at a festival, and people tasting seemed to enjoy it as well. Good pour F&G

Very good beer! Purchased 3/20/16 from Hazel's in Boulder, CO as a single can for $3.98. 10% ABV and 70 IBUS. The store was not selling in four packs or six packs(not expected). Cracked beer at about 40 F. L: Poured viscous and with the appearance of used oil with a thin tan head. S: Heavy on the bourbon; vanilla, oaky, smoky, dark fruit. T: Wonderful; the bourbon barrel aging really comes through. Malty, raisin, smoke, coffee, chocolate, and a cloud of vanilla rises up on the palate afterwards. F: Viscous and smooth. O: Overall a very great BBA beer. My second beer from Finkel and Garf (Oatmeal Stout) and very pleased. Not very familiar with this brewery but will surely be supporting them again in the future. I would highly recommend this beer.

God damn, this beer is so good, especially considering the price. Goes for 4 bucks a 12 ounce can. Pours a thick black, as expected of BBA stouts. Quarter inch of brownish white head. Delicious Vanilla and oak smell with hints of coffee and chocolate. Little bit of butterscotch smell in there too. Heat is very minimal. Taste of oak, coffee, dark chocolate, bit of dark fruitiness in there. The bourbon adds a nice little bit of vanilla flavor in there. The feel is great. Not to thick, no overwhelming syrup texture. Tastes and feels like a BBA should. Seriously, outstanding job Finkel & Garf. Going back to the store tomorrow to get 5 more of these. This beer is not receiving enough attention outside of Colorado.

Excellent BBA stout. Great notes of vanilla, chocolate, bourbon all fill the nose. Has a dark dark brown to black look with minimal head. Tastes like coffee, vanilla, and bourbon. Love this beer. Awesome for the price. They've become relatively hard to find now and I'm hoping they make more.
