-purchased at Midnight Sun Brewery, Anchorage Alaska 2020. Ale brewed with smoked malt.
A: Dark black pour show an inky glare along with a darken leather colored head. Thin lacing clings to the vessel walls. Bubbly surface, short head retention with some active carbonation disturbance.
S: The nose was very smooth with a strong smoky ash scent, which I happen to find pleasing, like a freshly charred campfire. Soothing, silty smoke wood from an Alaskan Fireplace. Silty coffee has deep chocolate highlights and strong accents of vanilla. A good amount of smoky charred wood barrels is pleasing and of very good strength. Creamy roasted nuttiness, dark fruit round out a strong showing on the nose.
T: Flavor followed the nose, silty and smoky wood ash, soft with freshly charred remains, mixing with deep chocolate and a roasty coffee over the campfire like feel. Silty campfire ash, burnt marshmallow and smoked dark fruit, plums, black cherries, and raisins are included. Roasted pine along with strong notes of vanilla add malt sweetness. Some slightly overcooked cake is warming and full.
M: Mouthful is creamy, bready, rich and full. Mineral ash graces the tongue with a balanced effervesce.
O: Overall as a smoked beer hits all the right notes for me. Strong smoky attributes you come to expect per style and brewery. Outstanding feel, strong aroma and flavor as well rich diversity of burnt offerings comes in a very drinkable package.

Bottle. Than head with some lace. Black color.
Not overly Smokey, but it’s there. Has a bitter chocolate flavor and roasted malts. Burnt caramel. Earthy, piney, resiny hops. Medium to full bodied. Fairly enjoyable.

A second-runnings of their regular smoked imperial stout, this is an extraordinarily balanced stout—smoked or otherwise. Nice cappuccino-colored head, not as prolific as I might expect, but solid nonetheless. Flavors of dates, plum jam, campfire, burnt malt, black and green peppercorns, and very dry grass. Nose of pine-sugar, natural charcoal, burning pine-nettles, and overripe plums. Big, but pleasant, lingering elements.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, with little light transmission in the glass and a half finger light brown head that dissipates to large patches with light lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet dark toasted malt, coffee, cocoa and smoked malt. Flavor is smoky dark toasted malt with char, boiled coffee, bitter chocolate, hints of vanilla and licorice. Finishes with residual charred malt and a nice light smokiness. Medium bodied with very light creaminess. A somewhat basic imperial stout base with a pleasant light smoky character. The profile leans towards an import stout, with medium maltiness. Flavorful, but not complex, it supports the smoky malts well. Alcohol well hidden, tastes like a much less powerful stout. I was overdue for a smoked beer and this one hit the spot.

Not the best imperial stout I have ever had, but this one does have a few nice characteristics in it's favor.
A pitch black beer with no head after resting for 5 minutes. Body is somewhat thin; more of a drinker than a sipper. As the beer warms you can really enjoy the balanced smoke and malt flavors. I would consider this very lightly smoked, which I tend to prefer.
