Poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking dark bronzed copper color with a small cap of a little white foamy head. Slight lace, somewhat messy and sliding.
The aroma had some brown sugar, sugared wheat, dark fruits, molasses, birch syrup and a touch of Belgian chocolate gracing the backside.
The flavor melded into the sweet side by blending all of the prior mentioned aromas sweetly. Sticky aftertaste of the sweet wheat, dark fruits and molasses.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied to full with a good carbonation and ABV. There's some stickiness but every wheatwine I've ever had always seems to be cloying. Finish was definitely cloying, can't deny that.
Overall, well, great aromas and flavors, now I don't want to knock the style by saying this: but why does every wheatwine I have always seems to have the cloying qualities to it. Maybe, it's a style that hasn't "come into it's own" quite yet.

3 year old bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a darker golden-orange body, one finger white head, plenty of retention and lacing. Smells like an intensely hopped wheat wine, almost like a triple IPA. It's interesting how hoppy this is despite the age. Strong malt presence, fairly sweet, balanced by a big hoppy bite, primarily citrus and earth. Oak. Touch of resin. Flavour essentially follows, though there is a slightly spicier finish to go along with the hops. Mouthfeel is medium-fuller bodied, good carbonation, smooth hop bite on the backend.

3oz pour at Hard Liver Fest. 2014 vintage.
Pours clear golden with a small head. Bronzish in color. Pretty beer. Smell is green grape.
Taste is more green grape, and otherwise very mild.
Mouthfeel is smooth and clean. Overall, decent barleywine.

L: maybe the ugliest beer I've ever seen. Ruby brown tint that has the look of a fruit juice. Absolutely no head or lacing present.
S: a little wheats, boozy, slightly fruity...pretty mild
T: hmmm...wheat and booze...not much there really
O: Not my favorite. Haven't had many wheat wines but just didn't enjoy this beer much. It isn't terrible but i wouldn't pick it again.

Smooth and spicy, this was one of the better wheat wines. I feared it being sticky sweet and it was nicely tempered, presumably by the attenuation of the Belgian yeast, which adds some phenols and a little fruitiness as well. The rye whiskey taste is there, but not so much the barrel / oak flavors, oddly, although there's some tannins, almost vinous. A little hot, but overall, a very nice effort that is drinking well now and will gain elegance with age.
