It makes sense for a Halloween seasonal to look like liquid chocolate (especially if it's brewed with the stuff). But rest assured this is not the kind of thing you want to be handing out to trick-or-treaters - nevermind that it's 7.8% alcohol, you wouldn't believe the price tag! Nonetheless, it looks worth it so far.

TREAT takes your slice of pumpkin pie, dips it in chocolate and pours coffee over it. The cocoa quality grows more prominent with warmth, as spices drift to the backdrop and the sooty, bitter flavours of dark chocolate blend with dark toffee notes to make a kind of gourmet, artisan, fall-themed Malteser.

While that impression of honeycomb malt is unmistakable, I'm somewhat surprised the chocolate and roasted malts don't disguise more of the spiciness; cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg can all be discernibly tasted even amidst such a rich, gooey truffle flavour and the overarching espresso notes.

If this is dessert - and it certainly could be - then I'll have seconds. The nice thing here is that it's not just dark, rich, and roasty - spicy seasoning contributes not just depth but a pleasant warming sensation and more savory aftertaste. Appropriate for a fall seasonal, this one's well layered.

I doubt trick-or-treating is very pleasant in ice-cold Alaska - you'd have to wear a jacket over your costume, I hate that - but if there's even one house on the block handing out this then it's worth freezing your buns off. TREAT is aptly named and delivers on the promise of decadent indulgence.

Very dark brown color with a thick beige head. Quite a bit of lacing slides down the inside of the glass. Aroma of pumpkin spices, vanilla, and cocoa. Tastes like a sweet pumpkin pie with some vanilla frosting on top. There is a bittersweet dark chocolate making it's presence know too. Lots of carbonation bubbles lead to a soft mouthfeel but somewhat thin for me personally. Really nice pumpkin porter here; glad I found it and enjoyed it to boot.

Black in color with a quarter inch of beige head. Light will not penetrate this dark beverage. Heavy lacing. Aroma is comprised of chocolate and pumpkin pie spice. I taste a sweet concoction of chocolate, pumpkin pie spice, allspice, and a bit of smoked malt. The body is lightly oily and viscous.

Poured from a bomber into two English pints. Dark brown to black with a very thin brownish head that quickly dissipates. Smell has notes of chocolate and a roasted malty goodness. Some pumpkin comes through as it warms. A nice porter malt flavor that quickly picks up the hint of chocolate. A roast malt lingers on the tongue. Overall feel has a slightly thicker than normal porter feel with some alcohol warming. Overall this is a very enjoyable treat. Not an everyday beer but nice change of pace. I also was able to sample a vanilla bean infused version at the brewery for first firken Friday that was even better.
