On tap at Midnight Sun. Poured out a clear, straw-yellow color with a very small, white head of foam. It left minimal lacing. It smelled of crackers, bread, floral notes and some caramel. Sweet caramel and cracker taste with citrus and a very mild bitterness.

its either a thing in alaska that you are supposed to howl like a wolf when you order one of these, or else the locals had some fun with me at the bar. either way, this is tasty pils, pretty clean but not devoid of character either, an important thing in a style that can dumb down to irrelevant sometimes. this is pretty distinctive to me in terms of hops, maybe more modern than old world, even though the yeast is decidedly european and the grain has some of that continental dustiness to it, its the hops that i think define this, limey but not from saaz it doesnt seem, and with a deep herbal quality that starts earlier than the hops usually do in these. maybe some lemongrass too, and still some bitterness, but all in balance and pretty fresh. i like it having a little fuller malt feel and a touch of sweetness in the middle, it sets up the finish well, which is the best part, and the ferment is clean enough and overall this is lively enough for it still to drink easy. a slight doughy thing as it warms, and less overall of the overt crispness the best of these have, but i think id trade flavor for texture in this instance. solid overall, always good to have a beer from these guys when in alaska!

Can. I can’t really say this is true to style. It isn’t as crisp and clean as a Pilsner and it has a bit heavier mouthfeel. Very bready and biscuity, but not very hoppy.

Very bad flavor and smell. Is still a beer though with alcohol in it. Seems like it was mixed with keystone ice and miller lite.

Mild haze. Golden color. Short lived head but it does leave good rings (2) initially.

Grainy barley corn aroma. Little hop nose

The flavor makes a nice rebound with softer malt starting the taste. The hop is well balanced to this. The mouthfeel is closer to, if not slightly richer than, the Czech version. Overall, a nice American entry to the category.
