thanks to lakersfan16 for this guy!

22oz bottle into a snifter

A- Look spot on! completely dark with a deep brown, maybe half inch head. disolves to a a dark ring around the glass

s- YES! this guy fills the room! Smokey, sweet chocolate, lots and lots of chocolate. a strong particular smell reminiscent to hunahpu and apple brandy zhukov actually. full body aroma fills your nose.

t- bitter chocolates. smoke flavors are present but not over-bearing. all the flavors are balanced very well together. bitter chocolate after taste. delicious

m- mouth feel definitely helps the flavors come out. thick and chewy. perfect carbonation.

o- very well crafted beer. every works together really well. the nose is just amazing. was surprised to see this guy sit at 12.6! only .4 less than bcs, but nowhere near the heat. thank goodness i got another!

EDIT: this guys a creeper. it goes down so smooth it'll f*ck you up rightquick

22 oz bottle sent by BigE90. Thank you SO MUCH. Shared with some friends. Poured into Cigar City snifter.

Appearance: motor oil, pitch black, complete darkness. Very minimal head, though sufficiently carbonated. Light does not pass through this beer in any capacity.

Smell: Amazing. The nose is greeted with a ton of booze, chocolate, and some smoke. I drank this when it was semi-chilled, so perhaps that's why the booze was so prominent. I also picked up a light oak character, which was well hidden.

Taste: very complex. Lots of cocoa and roasted malts, and lots of booze. My god, the booze. Also, some notes of what can best be described as breakfast- maple syrup and bacon abound (im guessing the bacon character im picking up is just the smoke). There was a pronounced sweetness, but it was complemented by the bittering cocoa flavors, etc. Well balanced and extremely enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is plentiful, but not overpowering. The flavors are extremely well balanced, and the oak character is subdued. To me, the booze was a bit overpowering, but not in a bad way. The viscosity was just right, not very thick but not quite thin either.

Amazing. Glad i was lucky enough to get a crack at this one.

It is worth noting that the people i shared this with represent a diverse group of beer drinkers. None of them are BMC only, but many are fairly new to craft. The rest, like myself, are still relatively new but have been around for long enough to develop a slightly educated palette. But, everyone in the group, from the #9 drinkers to the bourbon barrel stout drinkers, absolutely loved this beer.

Bottle in to firestone tulip
served at cellar temp

Color: Pours almost jet black. Hints of mocha shine around the edges of the glass. A nice tan one finger head forms in the glass, but it dissolves quite quickly.

Nose: Just superb! Light smoke, roast, and great oak presence. Hints of roasted coffee beans, mellow chocolate, with hints of tobacco. Quite complex.

Palate: Medium to full bodied. Extremely drinkable with the perfect amount of carbonation. The abv is well masked throughout the beer. On the tongue you first get the smoke followed by waves of roasted coffee and tobacco. At the back end the vanilla and cab barrel presence begins to show.

Finish: Smooth and uber complex. Great texture and layers. An incredible stout that shines above all others out there.

Been stashed away in my cellar for almost a year. Today is as good as any day to try this one. Opened on 5.27.12.

A - Pours a motor oil black with a very small dark tan head that quickly fades to the edges.

S - Mostly chocolate at first, then some subtle coffe and booze come out.

T - Again chocolate is noticeable at first, then a sweet, smokey wonder. Hard to place, but very good. Made me think of beef jerkey, and in a good way.

D - A heavier body and mild carbonation. Velvety smooth in the mouth.

O - So good. Smokey, but very sublte and well balanced. Subtle smoke, sweetness, coffee and chocolate, and some wow!

Thanks to BigE90 for the 22 oz. served in a snifter @ 50-55*

This is black with just a slight light brown head. Aroma is not to complex, it is bourbon barrel with a hint of smoke. This beer comes to life when you taste it. Bourbon(not sure if it was in a bourbon barrel), roasted barley, some dark fruitiness and alcohol flavor blend well together. The smoke just lingers there adding one more layer of flavor.

I really enjoyed this beer, hopefully they will produce it again.

I had several poured directly from the source and I was impressed.

Appearance was a good deep black with no visible light. Half finger head that was dense upon arrival but then faded after a few minutes

Smell was smooth and full of flavor. No over powering of oak or chocolate or coffee. Just a great sense of a blending of flavors to come

Taste was smooth with only an initial hint of bitterness. As it warmed to room temperature the bite mellowed and it left a sweet finish in the mouth that lingered a little.

Overall I was surprised by flavor and finish of such a young stout with this much body. I did not want to leave!

Thanks to Brian for bringing this to our tasting, 22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Never thought I'd be trying this one.

It pours a viscous jet black color, no light is getting through this guy. A nice caramel colored head appears, nice tight bubbles, about a half finger to a finger, dissipates quickly leaving behind no lacing but a nice ring of film along the rim of the glass as well as some residual film atop the beer. The aromas are wonderful, nice roasted coffee, charred wood, smokey malt, but I was impressed with how tame to overall level of smoke was. I'm not usually a fan of smoked beers or rauchbiers but the way Bar Fly highlighted smoke, without going overboard was amazing. Notes of dark fruit, chocolate and some sweet alcohol all show up in the nose as well. The flavors are wonderful, nice smooth, rich dark chocolate, dark fruits, cherries, plums, a bit of the wine, transitions nicely into the roastier flavors. The coffee element jumped out at me, nice layer of toasted wood, much fainter smoked malts, a bit alcohol with some caramel sweetness at the finish. The body is perfection, big, smooth, rich, syrupy, low carbonation, but just enough to enhance the richness and give it that big body.

Verdict: Can't say enough about this one. A huge shout out to Midnight Sun for this stout, the flavors are fantastic, not too smokey, but with just enough roast, bold, complex, smooth, rich and decadent, what more could you want in a stout?

Bottle shared by a generous soul at Woodshop

Look: Black as hell with a small maybe 1/8 inch tan head (small pour) with ok retention and some spotty lacing left on the glass

Smell: The nose was rather faint. The label says smoked imperial stout so I was expecting quite a bit of smoke and it is there but very faint. Following the smoke is some chocolate and oak

Taste: Again damn it where is the smoke??? Very faint smoke and just quite malty. There is a some roasted malt mid palate and has a fair amount of oak on the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to thick body with medium to low carbonation.

Overall: This is one of those beers that I am glad I did not trade for as I am quite let down. Based on the other reviews it almost seems like I had a totally different beer from everyone else or this beer was improperly stored and time has been harsh to it. Either way the beer was very lack luster at best and most definitely not worth the headache. I would love to try it again in the future to see if maybe I just had a bad bottle
