They've recently expanded and doubled their store size since the other reviews. I've never gone there for grain or hops and they didn't have what I was looking for. If your looking for an obscure yeast, call ahead and if they don't have it they will get it for you within a few days. Good selection of books. Also lots of wine kits and wine equipment, as well as a wall of cheese making goods. Knowledgeable staff for both wine and beer making. I would highly recommend this place, if you go to any of the Albany area beer events, they will most likely be there.

I did not even know that this place existed and have driven by two dozen or so times. Small store , a bit crampy but a nice selection of supplies. They have a great selection of beer, wine and cheese making supplies. The salesperson is a sort of homebrew guru. He is extremely knowledgable and will help with and question that you have about homebrew. They also have a nice collection of books and magazines on homebrew. If you live in the area and are thinking of homebrewing you must stop here.

Hennessey is a complete homebrew store for both beer and wine needs. They have a fairly extensive selection of the popular grains, liquid and dry malts, and hops. They also have the standard selection of Wyeast and White Labs yeasts, but they weren't able to get a specialty sour ale yeast that I was looking for. They have a decent selection of equipment, although it's a little on the pricey side. I usually find that it is cheaper to order more expensive items online.

That being said, the guys that work there are very experienced and usually very friendly. I have shared many a pint of homebrew (theirs and mine) with them before. They almost always have an answer for my questions and give me honest feedback about my beers. I recommend Hennessey to anyone wanting to start homebrewing, or experienced homebrewers looking for supplies.

As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a well informed salesperson who was genuinely excited that I was starting to homebrew. He gave me a tour of the necessary equipment, was honest, and generally made me very excited to homebrew. The selection was most impressive for a store of that size. After these first two batches hit the bottle I'll be back, for another round of kits, and a few more hints. If your in the albany area be sure to check this place out, although their webpage desperately needs an overhaul.

Not a very big store, but doesn't need to be, because everything you need to start or continue brewing is right there. The service was exceptional, as the guy working the counter completely walked me through starting up homebrewing, but since I already researched it on my own I knew he gave some helpful advice. He also offered me his card, just to call at any time if I had any problems. Good selection, and the best price on a good start-up homebrew kit I’ve seen. They also have home wine making part of the store that I didn't look at, but seemed pretty good as well. I'll certainly be coming back here!

Even though it is a pretty small shop it has everything the home brewer would want. They also have supplies for making your own wine and in the past cheese as well. All I am interested in is the brewing selection so I am a happy camper with the choices they have.

These guys are very helpful, any question/issue/crisis I have had they have been able to handle and point me in the correct direction. Also can sign if for a bi-monthly newsletter that will list sale items, upcoming events and usually will have a seasonal brew recipe.

So if you are in the capital district and are a home brewer or interested stop in and take a look.
