Pours a straw color with ok carbonation. Nose is floral hops and wheat malt. Taste is a balanced floral hop and wheat malt that leans into the malt. The cactus is subtle if there. Light body and medium carbonation with no aftertastes. Simple, summer beer that is one of the better beers from the brewery.

Poured from a can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed yellow-amber color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is very strong of a caramel smell mixed with a good showing of some cereal graininess and a bit of wheat. Along with these smells comes a bit of an herbal and grassy smell as well giving a rather easy going aroma overall.

Taste- The taste begins with a light cracker flavor with a decent showing of graininess and a little bit caramel sweetness. As the taste moves forward the caramel fades some all while some light herbal and grassy flavors develop. With a little bit of a wheat taste developing at the very end one is left with a crisp and clean grainy taste to liner on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a carbonation level that is average to slightly higher. The feel is good for the mix of light sweet, crisp grain, and herbal hop and makes for a very easy drinking brew.

Overall – A rather nice and crisp and refreshing kolsch with a good level of flavor. Quite easy drinking and flavorful!!

Unimpressive...very mundane. Pale malt, ale yeast esters, added vaguely fruity notes.

Not a memorable or dazzling brew. Drinkable for what it is.

we all thought this was delicious, but are still unsure whether or not there is actually fruit in it. if its just a slightly sweeter kolsch, which usually i dont love, it somehow works here, but i suspect a little of the prickly pear, tastefully added, gives it a unique sweetness that works great with the traditional german malt and yeast profiles of the beer. we liked it best ice cold right from the can, but there probably is no wrong way to enjoy this one. my first from these guys, never even heard of them before, so this was a pleasant surprise find! its crisp and refreshing, which usually fruited beer like this sacrifices, so im not so sure about the prickly pear, its not perfume and intense either, so if its here at all, its subtle, i cant decide really, i get more of a green melon and noble hop element to it, earthy and pretty delicate, more flavorful than many too, and the high carbonated makes it a total quencher. what i like the most about this is its playfulness, its good beer thats not trying to be too serious, and in this day and age, i appreciate that. a beer for drinking, what a novel concept!

A crisp beer and that's about it. Slight grain taste but a good entry beer.

Taste rating in words: a skimmer, gets all the junk out and keeps it's fresh and clean.

Meow, meow! The Cactus Cat is a Kolsch style beer that brings home the style (or what I know of it, anyway) with some thorns to keep you on your toes.

Compared to the only other Kolsch I've ever had (Love Street) this is quite different and a bit closer to what most people describe this style as. I had a few straight from the can, but pouring it into my usual Mewtwo glass revealed the bright golden color. Not much head to speak of on my end, despite the heavy carbonation. As the name might imply, this beer has a very grassy scent and taste, in a good way! The strong biscuit taste is supplemented by juicy and wheat notes. As I said, lots of carbonation, almost like a soda.

This one is quite different than what you might be used to, but certainly worth a try, especially for its very fair price point. Do you believe in the legend of the Cactus Cat?

Pours a light yellow golden color with white head. Cereal grains and some grass on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes the same, not much variation.
