Achromatic - MexicanAchromatic - Mexican
Notes: Brewed with an obscene amount of chocolate malts (over 150 lbs), oatmeal and crystal malts to lend a sweet, caramel malt backbone and smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Fermented with a clean, attenuative yeast strain to keep the focus on the malts and adjuncts. Generous additions of TCHO Chocolate cacao nibs, cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans to create a beer reminiscent of Mexican hot cocoa. The spiciness of the cinnamon sticks are a wonderful contrast with the rich, dark chocolate notes from the cacao nibs and the vanilla beans top it all off with a creamy, decadent sweetness

Was psyched to get out to WeldWerks for the first time on a recent work trip and thanks to Nick for picking me up. Had a taste of Nick’s on the visit and gave it a 4.25, writing, “Some of Nick’s. Excellent, creeping on world-class.” Online description read, “Brewed with an obscene amount of chocolate malts (over 150 lbs), oatmeal and crystal malts to lend a sweet, caramel malt backbone and smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Fermented with a clean, attenuative yeast strain to keep the focus on the malts and adjuncts. Poured a black color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-tan frothy head. Could see a few different bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spiderweb lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled Mexican chocolate, cinnamon, cacao, vanilla, chocolate milk, hints of spicy chili pepper and churro. A tad milkier from the can, but most of the same qualities. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted even better than the smell. In order got Mexican chocolate, cinnamon, cacao, vanilla, chocolate milk, churro, light chili pepper and cocoa powder. That 12.2 pct. is very well hidden. (Taste - 4.50)

Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, slightly spicy finish. (Feel - 4.75)

Really good, in fact world-class, overall. Can’t imagine a barrel-aged version. (Overall - 4.50)

Opaque black body; one-finger thick head, dense and creamy. Dark grain scent; some grain char; spicy, cinnamon; coffee. Rich and decadent flavors; cocoa and mocha; cinnamon; a touch of chili pepper; a hint of vanilla sweetness. Heavy body; velvety and creamy; chewy; warm.

Weldwerks created an incredibly tasty, rich and oily imperial stout. The beer brings some impressive depth and character to the palate, coating your mouth and throat with outstanding sensory thrills. Well worth trying...

Pours near-black with hints of red. The head is a billowing 3 fingers of fluffy tan.

The nose is cinnamon, maple syrup, chocolate, and Twizzlers.

The taste reminds me of Abraxas and is almost as good (almost). Cinnamon, milk chocolate, cherry, and subtle booze.

The mouthfeel is medium+ with a simultaneously sweet and dry finish.

Overall, one of the best stouts I've had from WeldWerks. You have to like cinnamon, though.

Tan head. Black color.

Thick and rich. Cinnamon and vanilla. Roasted peppers, but not very spicy.

Full bodied. Nice feel. Very thick and oily.

Wish it had more peppers.

Brief impressions from a crowler. Thanks, Otto!

Gorgeous rich khaki colour head of nice softness. Great complexion. ~8 minute retention. Body colour is an opaque black.

AROMA: Genuine vanilla bean, rich chocolatey malts (but not with too much concomitant sweetness), powdery cocoa, some mole-like chile heat, dark malt sweetness. Sticky cinnamon/cassia.

TASTE & TEXTURE: The sticky cinnamon/cassia clings to the roof of the mouth, but its powdery cacao-like feel is nice. Dark malt sweetness and specialty chocolate malt. No real hop presence (to style). Not too sweet. No roasty bitterness or burnt/charred flavour. Nice subtle vanilla.

I don't like the stickiness of the texture, but it's aptly medium-bodied. Smooth and wet. Unrefreshing (to style). Well-carbonated. Not oily, astringent, gushed, hot, or boozy.

OVERALL: It's a sipper, but not out of boldness of flavour or alcohol heat. The mouthfeel needs work, but it boasts some nice flavours and I do like it for what it is. Not a brew I'd buy by the crowler.

i agree with the other reviewer here that this has a ton of cinnamon to it, especially in the nose, but i dont think its unbalanced, its just a big bruiser of a boldly flavored beer, and i think it works. like abraxas and those types of things, it requires a lot of heavy handed extra ingredients to get the tenor right, chocolate for bitterness with the dark malt, a heap of cinnamon, spicy and earthy, i think these things make sense in this beer. a hint of smoke here, peppery and savory more than sweet in the nose, with the brown sugar and milk chocolate flavors coming on more sweet in the later stages of it. the tons and tons of body this has is awesome, and even though the spices are a lot, it isnt too much i dont think. this is awesome for the holidays, warming like cocoa, even though the booze is somewhat well hidden here for how big it is. i like the layers, sweet almond note, dry chocolate, a little spice heat. i was a little skeptical of all the hype here the first i started hearing it, but the more beer i have from them that isnt juicy bits, the more i am on board with the high praise. i like the coffee maple edition a little more i think, but this is pretty compelling too. very very high quality. nice use of intense flavors. yum.

Holy Cinnamon batman. Aroma is straight cinnamon toast, slightly sweet with a nice tan colored head on the pour. Black as the night body on this one. Taste while cold is very high on the cinnamon with not much else coming forward. As this one warmed the cinnamon died down a bit and the vanilla and chocolate sweetness came through. Definitely not thin and I think it drinks higher than 9% in terms of mouthfeel but no alcohol presence. I really liked this, it had a nice warming effect on an unseasonably cold night.
