My favorite Medianoche variant. Had on draft and from a crowler multiple times. Pours a pitch black with little to no lacing. Oozes with chocolate and toasted marshmallow (Marshmallow flavor only improves with age). Flavor is a touch sweet, with rich overtones of chocolate and honey. Moderate barrel presence - nothing overwhelming, the base beer keeps the barrel at bay while wallowing in adjunct-y goodness. Slick mouthfeel. Not a heavy beer, but rich enough to warrant sipping. A truly wonderful stout and one that I wish would be bottled. It seems to get better and better with age, even in the crowler, and I await the next chance I have to drink one with some additional age.

i believe it was this one, not the single barrel, that i had at the brewery, i dont recall it listed as single barrel. either way, the beer is delicious, overly sweet of course, which along with the huge booze factor really limit any real drinkability, and i think the adjuncts obscure some of the awesome richness of the base beer on its own, its a brilliant beer by itself, and really needs nothing added to it, although they have really made a name for themselves by doing so. its slick and thick looking, long legs left on the edges of the glass through a dense cream head. it smells like roast first, but then like a little camp fire smoke, a bit of sticky cooked sugar like a marshmallow, and plenty of vanilla and whiskey. i dont get a ton of graham cracker, if those are supposed to be in here too, i think the subtle honey cakey nuance would be lost to such a huge and dark grain base anyway, but i do get a lot of the chocolate, a bitter nib element and a sweeter milk chocolate character that goes great with the dark malt and the vanilla aspects. heavy feeling and hot, overly sugary, but the flavors are awesome, more dessert than beverage really, but delicious in small doses. i like that there is still some bitterness, almost charred, from the dark grain, and i like that there is some balance with darker chocolate notes. overall delicious, i still like the single barrel 13 month edition that i had next to it a little better, but this was mighty tasty. one of the better smore stouts around in my experience...

Format: Crowler March 2016

Appearance: Viscous, dark, non transparent. Very dark brown head, low head retention.
Aroma: Oh yes, that bourbon, gram cracker, vanilla marshmellow, nutty, roasty, chocolate bliss. The adjust aroma is more subdued on this beer than the other variants
Mouthfeel: Velvety smooth, extra thick, coating
Taste: Probably one of the more complex variants. Intensely flavorful, but there are many more subtle flavors that surface while drinking it. As the beer warms it changes a lot more than the others, more nutty, coconut flavors emerge and join the vanilla, gram cracker chocolate notes.
Overall: A rather original idea for an adjust stout. They pulled it off! I was skeptical, but this is fantastic. I like how complex the flavors are and how the beer evolves as it warms.
