Chewy and creamy with tons of chocolate malt, huge additions of maple syrup, and enough coffee to balance, Coffee Maple Achromatic is our quintessential breakfast beer. We boil for more than 6 hours to achieve the unbelievably rich, chewy, thick mouthfeel of the base beer. We take the decadence to the next level with multiple maple syrup additions throughout the process, which are a perfect complement to the huge addition of barrel-aged Peruvian coffee from our friends at Zoe's Cafe, which was aged for several weeks in a spent Medianoche bourbon barrel before roasting.

Pours black with two fingers of caramel tan foam. Aroma is maple right off the nose. A little syrupy and sweet, but not to the point of overdose. Coffee hits second, adding some mild bitterness, but not enough to shift the nose from sweet. Roasty, toasty, and caramely malts the remainder of the nose. Flavor profile is a touch more balanced, with a more sticky, cloyingly sweet maple out front. Beyond maple is coffee and milk chocolate. Coffee adds some mild bitterness, and with it, some balance. Roasty, toasty, caramely, and bready malts add some bread pudding, thick malty background to the maple and coffee. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a creamy texture that just has a touch of grit right at the start, before settling into a more creamy, heavy latte texture. Overall, big time maple and coffee with a thick, creamy stout underneath. Despite all this, it leans more towards the dessert side, as opposed to being balanced.

Served in a 16oz Speigalu tulip from a 500mL bottle.

Canned 3 months ago.

Pours almost pitch black with a thin tan head.

The nose is chocolate, maple, savory roast, and faint metal.

The taste is chocolate, maple, coffee, roast, and subtle bitterness. Hints of cherry. Very nice. It's fairly sweet but never excessively. The flavors are nicely melded and deftly presented, almost like CBS.

The mouthfeel is big. It starts full and almost melts on the palate into chocolate/maple/etc.

Overall, awesome. The 19 oz. format is a lot for one person, but it never becomes taxing.

Presentation: 19.2 oz can with the canning date printed on the bottom. Served in a Rastal Craft Master Grand.

Appearance: The thick, tan colored two fingers head stays around for a while and leaves behind a foam ring that stays until the end a lot of patchy lacing. It's a deep, rich black color with some very dark reddish brown showing up on the edges.

Smell: It's a strong and sweet aroma of milk chocolate and pancakes covered in maple syrup. There are some darker notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee but they take more of a back seat on the nose.

Taste: The taste is extremely well balanced and never gets too sweet or too bitter. The maple syrup hits first, that's followed up by some fresh coffee bean and chocolate notes. It ends with a slightly bitter aftertaste of roasted malt and black coffee.

Mouthfeel: It's smooth and creamy but not that robust. It's more medium bodied, a bit watery even, and the carbonation is low.

Overall: A very well made beer that strikes an almost perfect balance of flavors on the palate, smells great and looks good too.
