Notes:
Although this beer isn’t exactly new, since the style dates back to the late 1800’s when it was brewed for miners in the Hainaut province of Belgium. No adjuncts, no crazy ingredients, just a no frills session ale brewed with Pilsen malt, malted wheat, Hallertau Mittlefrüh hops and fermented with a highly attenuating Belgian yeast strain. The first of many #backtobasics beers we have planned for 2018.

simple but complex, this is an expert quality beer from weldwerks, no gimmicks, not even any frills to this one, a straight up awesome farmhouse table type beer, and something i plan to drink a whole lot more of assuming they keep making it. this is a gorgeous can of beer, bright golden in color with a gentle frost to it, and a tall white head with excellent retention and lace. it smells lightly belgian but not fermented too warm or all estery or anything, and also saison-esque, with a rustic funkiness to it, not quite bretty but getting there, old worldly, dupont type yeast complexion, a high compliment indeed. a nice dry cereal mash to this, white wheaty, maybe some oats, fluffy feeling, dry though for all its character, exactly what i like in the style. its also fairly hoppy as they go, european hoppy though, grassy and bitter, slightly citrusy but mellow, in line with the grain, there is grain balance here, and the two elements go back and forth a lot in here. the yeast is great, its farm and funky and my favorite feature of this, almost with a slight wild element to it, but not quite, its fantastic, and for such a simple beer, there is a lot happening here, elegant but really nuanced. bone dry to finish and highly charged carbonation. i sometimes am critical of these guys for making all these weird adjunct beers and then charging absurd prices for them, so its nice to see something so blue collar emerge fro this place. one of their best beers to date in my experience!

Belgian style session ale. Belgian yeast esters, orange peel, hint of lemon & banana and honey. Wheat malt. Nicely balanced. Not too sweet. Very drinkable. Could drink this all day. Light with a dry minerally finish.
