Starriest NightStarriest Night
Notes: Starriest Night is an Imperial Milk Stout brewed with milk sugar, hazelnut, toasted coconut and milk chocolate. Despite having released this specific beer previously in 16 oz cans, we took the opportunity to improve and somewhat refresh the original with the the change to 500 mL bottles. That means more than double the amount of toasted coconut, raw coconut, hazelnut and milk chocolate (in the form of over 250 lbs of milk chocolate syrup). Starriest Night is a big hazelnut and roasted chocolate stout. It is extremely sweet that takes over after a while. It also has some rough sediment that you have to scoop out after even the initial pour. Has potential in a barrel.

My first drop of Weldwerks stout arrives via a 500ML bottle that looks like the label is trying to mimic a kid’s book. I approve.

The pour is dead black & even a hard pour yields almost nothing, but there are little flecks of solids floating on top. Coconut, probably, I’ve seen that before in c-nut brews. The nose is rich chocolate & equally rich coconut.

Starriest Night is not the kind of stout where you wonder where the additional ingredients went – they stand up & yell on the first sip. Chocolate milk infused with hazelnut does the Ike Turner right in my face, somehow shoving the beautiful coconut bits to the background (but not very far). Lovely malt base adds to the sweetness & contributes a touch of roast. Creamy, rich, incredibly sweet. 500ML is about right, but if they could cram this into 16 oz. four packs I’d drive to the brewery to pick up 30 or 40.

A kitchen-sink beer that a temple should be built around. The base beer plays perfectly with the additions to create a memorable brew that isn’t just X+Y+Z=UIT. An elite non-barreled stout.

Jet black with a brown finger of foam, beautiful. Smell punches you in the nose with lush milk chocolate, flavorful hazelnut, cool coconut, vanilla cream, nutella anyone? Taste is a milk stout dream: creamy vanilla is the center of a galaxy of milk chocolate, fudge, nutella, hazelnut, coconut, hints of caramel and dark roast coffee. Feel is perfect: creamy, cool, thick but elevated in a non syrupy way, velvet smooth. Amazing milk stout, might be the best without barrel I have ever had! The wife loved it

This is the bottled version.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small and pretty quickly fizzling head, with a bit of lacing.

This smells like sweet hazelnut creamer, sweet vague creaminess, coconut, and chocolate milk.

This is definitely tasty, but it's a touch sloppy. It's very, very sweet, but the hazelnut and coconut are undeniably delicious here. I think maybe there's too much milk sugar here? It just feels almost *too* thick and has that sort of grainy sweetness that I kind of associate with lactose?

This is very creamy, with no booziness, but it's just a bit too thick any syrupy for my tastes.

The flavor here is spot on, but the some of the basic mechanics of this are kind of off.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short white head that rapidly dissipated.
S: Moderate aromas of toasted coconut are present in the nose along with notes of hazelnut.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of toasted coconut and notes of hazelnut along with hints of chocolate.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very slick on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really enjoyed the smooth mouthfeel of this beer and all of the flavors of toasted coconuts.

Very dark appearance with slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Very pleasant and prominent slightly sweet hazelnut. Taste is also a very pleasant slightly sweet hazelnut with a touch of vanilla and coconut. Feel is exceptional.

Deep ebony body; head starts thick and rich then fades to a thin tannish wisp. Outstanding aroma of charred grains and coconut; deeply roasted nuts (hazelnuts apparently); dark, sweet chocolate. The taste has incredible richness and depth, mirroring the the aroma; the coconut is more pronounced along with the hazelnut, and the chocolate comes across with a decadently sweet milk chocolate overtone. Heavy, silky smooth body; rich and oozy; amazing residual sugar tones; overwhelmingly sweet mouthfeel throughout.

What a truly out of sight imperial stout! The head fading to a bare wisp is the only negative, and that's a minor visual thing. But as soon as your nose inhales the aroma, and your taste buds and palate become coated with the decadent dark goodness infused within the beer, well, don't be surprised if you get gobsmacked with a case of sensory euphoria. The high alcohol content is essentially well-hidden, and despite the relatively immense sweetness involved, it is far from cloying. The coconut and hazelnut additions are what really makes this beer balanced as well as explosive and unique. Surely not for everyone, but if the keywords rich, complex, depth, and uniqueness (with regards to dark beers) interests you, do try it.

Pours near-black with tan lacing.

The nose is pure hazelnut. Nutty and sweet.

The taste opens with hazelnut and chocolate before cherry mid-palate and mild booze on the finish. The lightly boozy finish curbs the sweetness. Opens like Nutella and finishes like a more typical imperial stout. I don't distinctly taste the coconut addition.

The mouthfeel is medium+. Substantial and lightly syrupy.

Overall, very good. Sweet. I'm a sucker for hazelnut.
